IRISH AFFAIRS.

London, May 6. In the Commons last night a division was taken on Mr Lewis's motion that certain articles in the Times, charging Mr Dillon with falsehood, were a breach of the privilege's of the House. The motion was rejected by 296 rotes against 218. Mr Gladstone afterwards moved that a Select Committee be appointed on the question. In the House of Commons Mr Gladstone, in moving that the question of the action of the Times in charging Mr Dillon with falsehood, etc,, be referred to a Select Committee, contended that an official prosecution could alone be of a collusive character and would therefore prove futile. Lord Partington has declared that the Pavneliite party hava not specifically denied connection with Ihe Amori-

can advocates of outrages. It was imperative that they should jointly and unreservedly repudiate the allegations made against them. There are signs that the lrish-Ameri-eanß are making preparations for a dynamite campaign. May 7.
