A DISCLAIMER.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— My attention has been drawn to your issue of the 14th inst., containing t report of Mr Rolleston's speech at Te» muko. In thief report you attribute to me a question regarding Government Life Assurance, " As to whether Mr Rolleston considered it hub dignified on the part of the Government to canvass for business." I had nothing whatever to do with asking this question, and should muoh like to know your authority for such a misstatement,—l am, etc.,
J. S. Hatbs, lemuka, April 14th, 1887.
[Our reporter was under the impression thnt it was Dr Hayes who asked this question, but evidently he made a mistake, and we hasten to express regret at having erroneously attributed it to him. We do not Bee the good of publishing anything which might do harm to the Government insurance. It is an institution calculated to do a great deal of good, and we do not think it right to publish anything that wou'd weaken confidence in it. Hence our reason for declining to publish the balance of Dr Hayes' letter.— The Ediioe.]
