COLONIAL EXHIBITS.
London, March 17. The following reports h*ve been made on Colonial exhibits at tie recent Exhibition. Mr Foster, a mineral expert, is of opinion that Ne.v South Wales has the finest collection of coal and the beat mining model. Mr T. IS'. Lasleft, a timber expert, reports that New South Wales and Victoria possess hard and heavy woods for engineering and architectural work, und also have a fair quantity of timber which would make good furniture. He considers South Australia and Queensland hnve but little timber suitable for export. Or the timbers of WeFtern Australia jarrUi, karri and t.u*rfc are the most likely to be largely required for constructive purposes. He mentions kauri, puriri, rain, nun, and totara us the best of the New Zjalund woods.
Messrs Sewell and Rend, meat experts, say the Colonial tinned meats are of exceileDt quality, and ilie frozen ment is everything to be desired. All the New Zealand and a few of the Australian sheep show equ.d to the English sheep. The exhibits of the Sydney M at Preserving Company and Messrs Walsh and Elliott are highly praised. Mr A. linker, grain expert, considers the progress of agriculture in Victoria remarkable, and the cereals displayed are of a vrry fine quality. He reg'e'ted that the South Aus'r-ilian ceroids were so poorly represented. New Z alaDd grnii'S he reports »re of the finest quality, the Chevalier bar'eys bring enormous prices. Mr Anderson, machinery expert, reports that Beard »rid Lesson's Victorian strippers, and Staff and Sons' South Australian stump plough aud cultivators are novelties in England. Mr F"Hter, the mineral expert, considers tbe returns from the Band and Albion Consols mine, Bdlnrat, andMouut MoraD mine truly phenomenal.
