MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of this Board was held in the Road Board Office, Peel Forest, on Friday, the 18th inst. Present—The Hon. J. B. A. Acland (Chairman), Messrs R. Mackay, C. G. Tripp, R. The.>, and G. J. Detmistoun. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. TENDERS. Tenders for Contract No. 11, ploughing round plan'aM'w--.. " r " - o opened as follow!*:—Frank r*urii..ui, £7 ; Richard O'Niel, £5 (accepted). CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and coDßidered : From the Commissioner of Property Tax, forwarding information in reference to Run 422.—The Clerk was instructed to aßk who pays the Property Tax on the property. From the Treasury, Wellington, informing the Board that the sum of £4O 12s 7d had been paid to its credit, being the amount of rates due on Crown Lands. From the Geraldine County Council, suggesting that the Board should collect the County, rates at the same time as they collected their own, and asked what time the Board intended striking their general rate for the ensuing year.—The Clerk was directed: to iuform che County Council that under ordinary circumstances the Board would not strike another rate until the latter part of the'present yenr. From Mr Allan Macdonald, requesting that his son's name be placed on the roll for the property on the Opuha river, instead of his own.—The request was complied with. CHARITABLE AID. Resolved—" That a letter be sent to the Charitable Aid Board, stating, that in consequence of a resolution of the Board passed on February 18th; a letter wns sent to tho Charitabl* Aid Board, referring to the case of the man Seale, to which no answer has been received ; that it appears to this Board'from its own experience, and that of one or more of the ratepayers of this district, that the' Charitable Aid Board does not thi»'< it necessary to nnswer letters addressed to it; that this Board therefore forward to the Charitable Aid Board a copy of the lastletter, and inform them that the Mount Peel Road Board consider tbem responsible if any accident should occur to this unfortunate man Seale." NEW WORKS. The Ov rseer was directed to have the side of the road protected at each end of the concrete hridge in Peel Forest, and have thfl s'ones picked off the sidling cutting in thts ; alse to put some blinding on the broken metal on part of the Main to&A, RATES. Resolved—" That notice be given to all defaulters of rates that unless all arrears are paid up within two weeks the amount will be sued for without further notice." ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £lO2 6a 2d were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned.
