Ihe hall was packed. A long and varied programme had been prepared, and the entertainment opened at 7 o'clock, half-an-hour earlier than usual, in order to allow of the various items being got through. Mr J. S. VYaite, the energetic and untiring superintendent of the Lodge, presided over the meeting and rapidly and successfully got each item off. The Lodge was opened in the usual manner : and then the more interesting portioo of the entertainment commerced. The following tnembers took pari: Annie Boughton, reading ; Mary Coltman and Maggie Dnnlop, du«t; Bar+lu Dean, recitation ; Emily Maslin, Mioa Dunlop, and Wm. The solos " The Golden Stair," by Miss Dunlop; "The Golden Shore," by Miss Millar; " Come Home Father," by Miss Andrews ; and a recitation " The Little Shoes," by Mr Mabio, added much to the evening's enjoyment. An able and interesting address delivered by Mr Pollock, who is on a short visit to Geraidine from Otago, was listened to very attentively by those present. _Mr McKenzte also addressed the meeting. During the evening an opportunity was taken at the interval, to hand round fruit, which had kindly been supplied by friends of the children. A most enjoyable evening was terminated shortly before ten o'clock by the lodge being closed in the usual manner. The rarents of the children in Geraidine have every reason to be deeply thankful to Mr Waite and his assistant Mr E. Mabin for the keen interest they take in the welfare of the young members of the lodge. It is quite evident to all that both have their hearts thoroughly engaged in the work they have undertaken, and it must be exceedingly gratifying to them both to find their labors appreciated and the public come forward to support them as they did on Wednesday evening.
