AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the above Board was held yesterday evening. Present—Messrs Lee (Chairman), Story, *nd Edgeler. MINUTES. The minutes of the last ordinary and special meetings were read and continued. correspondence, A letter was read from Mr J. H. Baker, Commissioner of Crown Lands, forwarding numbers of reserves vested in the Arowhenua Town Board as an endowment in aid of the Board's funds,'and stating that a warrant re same appeared in the Gazette of the 17th February.— The Clerk was instructed to see if the list of sections in the letter corresponded *»ith those in the Gaz-tte. LETTING RESERVES. The Chairman said that as they were in possession of the reserves it was advisable to take steps in the matter. He would favor a seven years'lease and a conditional fence. Mr fidgeler was also in favor of the terms of the leases being fixed at seven years, but he would not favor a conditional fence. If a tenant erected an inferior fence, and cattle got in, it was his own look out. Mr Story said he would support Mr Edgeler. He thought it would be better to leave the fence to th 3 tenant. After some farther discussion Mr Story proposed, Mr Edgeler seconded, and it was carried—" That the Clerk prepare specifications, and cull for tenders for leasing the reserves for a term of seven years." It ww decided ro draw up similar conditions to those of nhe Temuka Town Board. AS IMPORTANT MATTER. The Chairman stated that the Board had no claim on any of the proceeds from the cash sections recently sold nor from the deferred payment sections to be sold. He hud seen Mr Bolleston in reference to the matter, but thought it weuld be advisable to write to that gentleman asking him to see to the matter as soon as the Parliament opened. Mr Baker had told him that he had no authority to pay the Board any more money ; therefore, it would be necessary to insert in the Special Powers and Contracts Act a clause which would give power for the payment of same. After some discussion, it was decided that the Clerk be instructed to write to Mr Rollestou, asking him to take the necessary steps for the addition to the Special Powers and Contracts Act authority for the payment to the Board of one third of the proceeds from deterred payment sections ard one fourth of proceeds from cash sales of sections. UNREGISTERED DOGS AND UNPAID RATES. A lengthy discussion took place on the subject of unregistered dogs and unpaid rates. In reply to a question, the Clerk stated that the rates were coming in ; also that he had received several promises of payment of the larger rates. After the matter bad been thoroughly discussed, Mr Edgeler proposed, Mr Story seconded, and it was carried—" That the Clerk be instructed to advertise that all rates not paid on or before the 20th of March be will sued for, and that all owners of unregistered dogs be prosecuted," MISCELLANEOUS. The Clerk stated that he had received the sun/ of £7 53 3d from the Property 2ax Commissioner for unsold sections in Arowhenua township, The Clerk woe instructed to take the necessary steps to get possession of the cottage occupied by Mr Wells, OVERSEER'S REPORT, The following report wag read j—- " To the Chairman. "Sib, —I havo the honor to report as directed at last regular meeting on Alexandra street from Ormsby street to Shaw street, and should recommend that the street be reformed and re-skingled from the corner of ©smack street to th« corner of Shaw street

Contrict No. 3is also nearly completed, so I have passed voucher for that work, the oh-que to be held over the same us in contract No 1. Contract No. 2 is not completed, and as it will

Dtson. On the motion of Mr Edgeler, seconded by Mr Story, it was resolved to call for e'nders for re-forming and re-shingling Alexandra street, from Gamack street to tlio corner of Shaw strest. Mr Story proposed, Mr Edgeler seconded, and it was carried—" That the C'erk procure the services of a surface mm at 6s per day." ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £64 were passed for payment, and tho meetiDg uljourned.
