The Chairman stated that r commendations'"affecting teachers were,as follow j,* I—Miss lAvison to the post of Infant Mistress to the , Timarp Main,School; Mount Gay,Mr A. South wood ; ©pihi, Mr Allsop ; Milford, Mr Josephs ; Geraldine, head master : Mr Aitken,; head ims-i tress Miss M. 0. Pearfon. The whole of the recommendations were agreed to with the exception of that relating to Mr A. Southwood. . . i | The Chairraa'dreported that the tenders for additions to the Wsimatuitai and other schools had ibeen accepted, and the: work was ; going on. Tenders for a master’s house at Kakahu Bush were submitted to a subcommittee, buf ; were found too high'.and;, had been retu'inqd. i} 51' " The Architect' reported that the’‘#orks in hand were going on'satisfactorily. A number of reports on schools inspection were read. aed the Secrdtaay was. instructed to forward them to the several School Committees. ( , : The Inspector's general report was read, dealing with the slate of Hilton and other school's, ’’ Correspondence of interest to this district vras dealt with as follows ;— 1 ,, From 1 the Gapes’ Valley School Committee, applying fora grant for lining the granted. Frith the Rangitata Committee, asking’ for funds to built a woodabed. -Eatimate required. ' ' From Mj. King, offering ,to lekse, the . school reserve at Geraldine .—Accepted. From the Burke’s Pass Committee, asking to be supplied with a,well or tank, or proper water supply,—£4 10s granted. From the ~Opihi : iSchool Committee, respecting "the removal of’ closets.—£3 granted. From the Temnka Committee, ; recommend ing--Miss Florence -Brown as-third teacher. Miss Brown was appointed. ,The Scholarship Committee’s, rpnort-jAas read by'thb: Her.‘Mr Barclay atf foilblws:— The examination commenced on January 4th and cbnc oiled on * ihe '7th. Only nine junior and four senior candidates presented themselves, and out of the 40 schools of the district' 'only 10 wine reffjsented by candiduies. Among the seniors, Miss Fietield and Masters Stewart and Colbetfc were given scholarships of the maximum value of £3O. Mr Barclay said on the whole the examination was very weak, but few of the candidates showing that they were prepared for the work set them.
