STRANGE OUTRAGE.

Mmbottini, Dec. 21 An extraordinary outrage was com* mittad in broad daylight yesterday after, noon at Footacray, a suburb near Flemington. Hansen got in through the window and the young carpenter ran, over alone for the purpose of frustrating any evil Intention which Hansen might have had. On reaching the spot he found that the old lady had most courageously attacked the intruder, and he in return had placed a waist strap round her throat and drawn it tight, and waa alto endeavouring to force a hand, kerchief down her throat. As soon as the ewpehter rushed in Hansen made off. The carpenter followed him. The pursuit was kept up for two miles, the carpenter, #ho is only a lad of eighteen, resolutely maintaining the chase. He also endeavoured to frighten the fugitive by calling out that he waa a detective._ At last they passed some quarrymen. They all joined in the cbaae, and Hansen was aoon a captive. On being searched Hansen was found to have quite a miscellaneous collection, including Christmas and birthday cards, pencils, watch chains, lockets, and a Savings Bank book.
