AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.

A meeting of the Arowhenua Town Board was held last evening. Present— Messrs Lee (Chairman), Austin, Proudlock, Story, and Edgeler. MINUTES. . The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, CORRESPONDENCE. A telegram was received from the Secretary to the Treasury stating that steps had been taken for obtaining the Governor’s warrant for the payment of the money due to the Board. DIVISION OP FUNDS. The Chairman stated that he had waited on the Road Board, and obtained a cheque for £25. He had spoken of the reserves, but Mr Talbot said they had only two acres of reserves. He also spoke of the pound, but Mr Talbot said he could get it altogether. Messrs Edgeler and Story were in favor of taking over the pound, but after some conversation the matter dropped. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £3O 4s 9d were passed for payment. On the motion of Mr Story it was resolved—“ That the Chairman and two members be authorised to sign cheques.” THE CREEK. Mr Story said several persons had asked him to take steps to have the land about the creek reserved. Mr Rayner had spoken to him and expressed a desire to have all the land surrounding the creek reserved. Mr Hayhurst also spoke to him about it, Mr Proudlock said Mr Rayner had a tracing of a map which showed a chain ;wl4d all round the creek. The Chairman said it was their duty to look after the interest of the inhabitants. Mr Edgeler said there would be a great deal of trouble if anything was done in the matter. The object was so that the people might go fishing there. Mr Proudlock said he had never heard anything more absurd. Who was to make the place beautiful except the people themselves 1 It would be better not to meddle with it. After some conversation it waa resolved, on the motion of Mr Edgeler, seconded by Mr Proudlock-“ That this Board does not consider the question of reserving a greater distance uronod the creek in the Arowhenua Town District within its functions.” The meeting then adjourned to the 22nd inst.
