Mr Tripp stated bis belief that a good supply of water could be brought into the town for £SO, and gave an outline of his plan for carrying out the work. He also pointed out to the Board the necessity that existed for such a supply owing to the bad drainage of the town and the consequent risk of some epedemic breaking ont during Ihe summer months. Mr Maslin said be did not think £l5O would be nearly tnough to do the work. He pointed out that the freehold the Board would have to acquire, in order to carry out the work, would be considerable. . , ~ . Mr Quin thought they should take no steps in the matter without having a general meeting of the ratepayers and testing their feeling upon the subject. He would be in favor of holding such a meeting and asking Mr Tripp to attend. After some little discussion, Mr Mundell proposed and Mr Maslin seconded—“ That Mr Tripp’s letter be replied to', and be be informed that the Board can not take any steps in the matter until the application emanates from the majority of the ratepayers.” RANGER’S REPORT, The Town Rangel’s repoit giving the number of cattle and horses found wandering upon the streets was received and read. reserves. NOTICE BOARDS. Mr Quin said he would like to see one or more notice boards, on which to place the Board’s notices at either end of the town, in addition to the board at the office, as a greater convenience to the public.—Members thought it would be sufficient if the board now in use were placed In a more conspicuous position.— The Clerk was authorised tc get this done. ■ 'r I ■ OVERSEER'S report. The Overseer’s report was read as follows, and the following resolutions passed thereon;— _ « The Chairman and Members of Geraldine Town Board. “ GbkxlbMßF, —I have the honor to state for your information that since the last meeting of the Board the surface men finished the asphalt and other minor matters they had in hand, and no labor has been employed beyond clearing the water tables, drains, etc., of debris and vegetable growth, and the streets and footpaths generally are in good order and condition. The tune has arrived for making out the valuation list for the Town District for the year 1887. Also, that the fee should be fixed for dog licenses and dog collars obtained, so as to have them ready for the Ist Jan. 1887. The accounts for asphalt have been rendered, but. the whole of the money is not paid. The reaipts during the month have been £2 15s fid for asphalt.—l am, etc., “ C. E. Shbbbatt.” The Clerk was appointed valuer for the Geraldine Town District for the ensuing %2 months, and authorised to prepare the necessary valuation list for the year 1887. fie doe licenses: Mr Maslin moved and |<r' Mundell seconded—” That the fee be as usual,"—Mr Quin would like to aee the fee for aheep dogs, with which 1 'many people got their living, fixed at ss, and for sporting ,doga Members thought it would be difficult to pjake the distinction; if this were established people poult call them all cheep doge, Anally
the proposition te make the fee 10a was carried. Be new collar? ; Members were in favor of getting the new collars made by the local tradesmen provided they could be done as cheaply as they had been done by an outsider last year.—Mr Mundell proposed and Mr Taylor seconded — “That Mr Connolly get the work to do, provided he can undertake to do it at the same f rice as it was done last year, the Chairman to make the beat arrangements he can with Mr Connolly for rebadging the old ones** Carried. NfriCE OF MOTION. Mr Quin then moved the motion of which he ha 3 given notice at the previous meeting, namely:—“That the Board obtain the services of a competent working Overseer for the purpose of keeping the streets in repair.” He thought it very desirable that such an officer should be appointed. It appeared to him that a good many men bn*) been employed by the Board lately. Tlie Clerk had too many duties to attend to to be able to look after the men working for the Board. He wished fo see a competent working Overseer who would be responsible to the present clerk. He thought it better to to pay such a man, say, 6s fid per day regularly than letting the work be done as it was now. The Chairman pointed out that there was very little work indeed to be done just now,*and would not be for sometime to come. ' Members thought the motion was rather premature just now. During the work that had been lately been carried on it was just the thing that would have answered admirably, and if any such work was to be done in the future it would be a very suitable appointment to make. Members were unanimous that it would be quite advisable when extra work was going on. After some little discussion Mr Quin withdrew bis motion. CROSSING TO COURTHOUSE. The Chairman stated that before the Boad eat again an application would probably be made for a crossing into the new Courthouse premises.—The matter was left in the hands bf the Works Committee to attend to. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £l4 fis fid wore passed for payment, and the Board resolved itself into a ' BOARD OF HEALTH. The Inspector’s report was read, which showed the town to be io a good sanitary state, and it was considered satisfactory. No action being needed, the Board resolved itself into a DOMAIN BOARD. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman said the principal question was with regard to the bush which had been vested in them. He thought the Board were bound to fence it in, seeing they had promised to do so if it were vested in them by the Government. Members were of opinion that it would pay well for fencing in. After some little conversation, Mr Maalia moved—“ That the bush be fenced in with a substantial fence -6ft fiin. posts, 2 barbed wires, and 5 plain ones. The other details to be left to the Works Committee, who be empowered te call for tenders.” This being all the business, the Board adjourned till Jan. 4th, 1887.
