THE CABLE DISPUTE.

Wellington, Nov. 14. The following cablegrams have passed between Sir Julius Vogel and the Agent- , General on the cable question : - Sir J. Yogel to Agent-General.— “ November sth, The Extension Company are behaving badly to their officer > in our building ; and organising Press agitation. Ask Silverton how soon after the order is given could a cable be ready for use ; also, would they agree to construct leaving Parliament the option of purchase, or lease for term of years with- ; out undertaking to purchase.” Agent-General to Sir Julius Yogel.— , “ November Bth, Have seen Silverton ; time of making about forty days ; voyage and laying eighty or ninety days; price reduced to £155,000 or £l6O, 00.. Re. ly to other question on Wednesday,” Agent-General to Sir Julius Yogel.— “November 10th. An answer to the other question is postponed tilt Friday. Meanwhile I can arrange with the Eastern Company to restore the status quo ante , so that Parliament may consider the question next session. Instruct me.” Sir Julius Yogel to Agent-General.— “November 11th. The Company has behaved very badly, but will agree to status quo ante for six months, provided the Press rates are lowered to, 3d with a guarantee that the Press revenue will not suffer by the redaction.”

Agent-General to Sir Julius Vogel.— “November 12th. Pender accepts your terms. Silverton’d reply to the second question received ; Shall I telegraph particulars?” •

Sir Julius Vogel to, Agent-General.— “ November 13th. Silverton by letter.”
