'I he Parnellite Press contain violent articles on the rejection of the Irish Land Purchase Bill, and apparently are endeavoring to incite the tenants to refuse to pay their rents. Sept. 24. Addressing a Conservative meeting at St. Albans last night, the Marquis of Salisbury declared that the only me&ns of restoring social order in Ireland would be to multiply the number of small freeholds. It is understood that the mission of Nubar Pasha, the Egyptian Premier, in visiting England is to settle the basis of the occupation of Egypt by the British troops for an indefinite period. The Duke of Edinburgh and Prince George of Wales have arrived at Constantinople, where they were cordially received by the Sultan, by whom they have been decorated with Turkish Orders.
In the House of Commons to-day, the Hon. E. Stanhope, Secretary of fltate for the Colonies, in reply to a question, reiterated the hope expressed on the 6th inst. that a peaceful settlement of the New Hebrides question would shortly be arrived at. A meeting of exhibitors has been held, who are favorable to the reopening of the Colonial and Indian Exhibition at South Kensington next year.
The following gentlemen have been added to the Jubilee Commission ; The Duke of Manchester, Earl Carnarvon, Sir Frederick Leighton, Sir John Gilbert, Sir P. C. Owen, Sir Joseph Hooker, Sir Henry Tbring, Sir J. D. Linton, Major-General Freemantle, Colonel Donnelly, and Mr Robert Owen. The Earl of Kimberley has declined the appointment to the Commission which was telegraphed on the 22nd..
Mr D. Baden Powell suggests that an organising committee should be appointed to prepare a charter for the suggested Imperial Institute, The Morning Post says that it is the opinion in diplomatic circles in Paris that the French Government have resolved to annex the New Hebrides, and that the question will be definitely decided at the next sitting of the Cabinet. The freedom of the City of Limerick has been conferred on Mr Gladstone.

The sculling match for the championship between Beach and Wallace Ross was rowed rn the Thames to-dayi Beach led from start to finish, ultimately wicning by five lengths. Parliament has been prorogued until November 11th, In the Speech from the Throne it was stated that the Great Powers had assured the Turkish Government that no infringement of the Treaty of Berlin would be allowed. The Speech declares that on all sides there has been observed a desire to draw closer the bonds of union between the different parts of the Empire. Her Majesty’s Government had communicated with the Governments of the principal colonies with a view to further consideration of common interests. The English and American Governments were examining into the fisheries disputes, in rrder to find the basis of the treaty for the reciprocal fisheries rights between Canada and America. Madagascar that the relations betweee the French Resident, General Tara there, and the Government of Madagascar are at present somewhat strained. The Resident has been instructed by the French Government to demand (hat the treaty recently concluded betwon the two countries shall be carried kite effect.
