ASHBURTON MARKETS. Mr B, G. Staveley (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company) reports on the Ashburton stock sales on Tuesday as follows : About 4600 sheep and 40 cattle were yarded. There was a good attendance and a brisk sale. Values of sheep improved. Good young crossbreds were in demand. Forward crossbred wethers 9a lOd, 10s 9d, 12s; do mixed sexes, 10s 3d to 10s 6d ; forward merino wethers 6s Od ; fat lambs 7s 6d ; medium cross, bred hoggets 6s 2d to 6s lOd ; good do, 7a Id to 8s; merino ewes in lamb, 3s lid os to 8d ; do with ninety per cent lambs, 6s 2d, Cattle without alteration : Ordinary, fat cows, £4 15 ; medium dairy do, £4 to £5 15s apiece.
ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Sept. 17. Wool is hardening at slightly lower rales. Merino is higher, and crossbred show an increase of 20 to 25 per cent, on July closing rates, 140,000 bales were catalogued, and only 60,000 arc available for next series.
