At the inquest on the body of William Ward, found dead at Island Bay, a verdict was returned that syncope was the cause of death, the result of continuous starvation. An elderly man, named Telfor, working in Willis street, Wellington, on Wednesday morning received a severe scalp wound and blood was oozing from his ears. He was taken to the hospital and found to be snffeiing from concussion of the brain. He is very weak and in an unconscious state, He had been drinking. Tu Tawhiao, the “coming King” of the Maoris, is lying dangerously ill at Whatiwhatiho?, without medical attendance, while Tawhiao is absent at the Bay of Plenty. The Native Minister received a number of deputations at Auckland on Wednesday, principally with legard to the Village Settlement scheme. The deputation from the Parnoll'Borough Council arranged with Mr Ballance and the Crown £ands Commission, to hand over the Council’s endowment of lands at Hokianga far village settlement i purposes.
