CONCERT AND DANCE AT SOUTH RANGITATA.
A concert and dance in aid of the incidental fend of the South Rangftata School took place last Friday, and was a pronounced success. The were present visitors from all parts of th* district, and Geraldine and Temuka were strongly represented. On the motion of the Rev. Mr Barclay Mr Angus Macdonald was voted ip the chair, and he filled it in an exemplary manner daring the evening. On the platform were the Rev, Mr Barclay, Mr N. Dunlop, and Mr Rnddenklau, Chairman of the Committee. The programme waa a very lengthy one, lasting from 8 till 11 o’clock, and in conaequence all the enoorea were not responded to. Miss Blyth presided at the piano dnring tbo evening, and accompanied most' of the songs, and her .csrefnl playing/ did much to cover the dcfioiegciea in, the instrument, and ' contributed , mnck to the succeas of the concert. The whole of the songs and recitations were givan iu a flrst-citis manner, and doubtless encores would have been more plentiful had the programme been shorter, or bad there not been a dance to follow. As it was the andionce made their appreciation fully msnifeit. "The following votes of thanks were carried by acclamation: —On the motion of Mr Rnddenklan, ■ vote of thanks to the ladies and gentlemen taking part in the entertainment ; on the motion of Mr Barclay, a vote of thanka to the School Committee (Mr Rnddenklau suitably responded) ; on the motion.of Mr Donlop, a vote of thanks to the ladies who bad decorated the schoolroom ; on the - motion of Mr Ruddenklau, a rote of thanks to the Chairman (Mr Macdonajd. briefly responded). The concert then terminated, end the room was quickly prepared for a dance. This was largely attended, and was kept up for several hours, many staying anti! 4 o’clock on Saturday morning. AH' present reemed to heartily enjoy themselves. The music was supplied by Mr Figoni, and the refreshments by Mr Marshall, ofTeranka, and both were flrst-plata. Altogether the «ntertainmsnt:«nd dance proved a sneoesa ascend to none previously held in the district, and the object of the Commi tec has been attained, .. ,
