FOOTBALL.
GERALDINE V. PLEASANT VALLEY. A match took place at Geraldine on Saturday between teams chosen from the above schools. A good deal of interest bad been taken in the match by the juveniles, and quite a number of scholars were present as spectators. The visitors, who were captained by J. Bethune, had the, best of the game all through, and showed much better form than the home team, who need a lot of practice to make them fit to meet their opponents of Saturday. The match resulted in a victory for the visitors by two goals and five tries to nil. For the Valley team, J. Bethune, A, and J. Lyssght and Ogilvie played well, while for Geraldine A. Morrison (captain) and Cpogan were the only two whe were at all conspicuous, Mr F. Bethune acted as umpire for the Valley team, and Mr J. Kalangher for the Geraldine boys, Mr O. Foster acted as referee. TEMUKA V. TIMARU. A match .took place on Saturday last between teams representing the Timaru High School and the Temuka District High School (past and present), on the ground of the former. The game was started: by the Temuka captain (A. Frank*) kicking off, after which some fast play ensued, daring which limaru waa twice forced down. The play then became rery eveu, neither side haring the advantage until towards the end of the spell, when the Temuka forwards worked ‘ the ball well down in Timaru’s 25 yards, whore it was kept until time was called. In the second spell rimsru sent the ball rolling, and being well returned by the Temuka backs was soon brought back into Tinara’s 35 flag, where, after some loose scrimmaging, McOaskill secured the leather, aid by a good run scored the first try for Temuka, bat no goal resulted. On being kicked aff again, Timaru rushed the ball well down the field into close proximity to Temuka’s goal, when Cotter, by a smart run, secured a try for Timaru, but no goal resulted. Shortly afterwards Raymond scored another for Timaru, but no goal wae again the result. From the k<ck out the Temuka lads worked the ball well into Titnaru’a quarters, where Brinkman secured lb* leather and passed it to McOaskill, who scored another try for Temuka, this time getting right behind the goal. The try was entrusted to W. Storey, who kicked a goal. Shortly after time wss called, Temnka thus winning the match by three points. For Temuka the brothers Franks, R. Coltman, Storsy, McOaskill, and Anstm played well, and Cotter, Rees, W. LeCren,. Raymond, and McKenzie did good service for Timaru. The game passed off very pleasantly, and was well contested throughout,
