MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above Board was held at their office on Friday, 16th July. Present—Messrs Tripp (in the chair), Dennistoun, Mackay, ani Thew. The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed, notice was taken of an objection made by the Geraldine Koad Board in the report of their meeting to this Board taking clay from the Geraldine side of the boundary road for use on Mount Peel roads.— The Clerk was instructed to convey the regret of the Board at this mistake having been made, and to undertake that it would be discontinued. Correspondence was opened from the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, requesting the Board to pay in their half-year’s contribution of £lO2 17s 3d, —lt was resolved that the cheque be forwarded. The Clerk was instructed to write to the Timaru Borough Council for their consent to the proposed alteration in Hitch’s road, near Rainchff; also to Mr Harper, as attorney for Mr Hoare, on the same subject. To find out il there are any ratepayers in the district requiring poisoned wheat; and to for repays to boundary road, and for metalling a portion of the main roai through the bush. The Overseer’s report waa then read. It stated that No, 2 contract, metalling main road, was being proceeded with aatisfactorily ; No. 8 contract, trimming and grubbing reserve fences, has been finnished ; No, i contract, repairs to McMillan’s road, is also finished. The main road has been repaired by day labor and the Board’s horse and cart from the school corner to the Bush, There is, however, too ranch metalling required to be done in this manner j if continued, it will have to be
let by contract. It has been decided to do no more to the slip on the Kakahu and Burke’s Pass road for the present, as the repairs are snficient for some 'months to coma. The new rond into Hitdi’a land is much required, as at present his sections sre inaccessible, the present road laid off thereto being useless. Tbs proposed road will also give access to about 800 acres of the Timaru Borough Council’s reserve. The surface-men have finished, and made good all the various roads mentioned in (be last report, and are now engaged on the Kakahu and Burke s Pass main road. Various accounts were passed tor payment, to the amount of £l4l 18s, and the meeting adjourned.
