PROPOSED AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.

A meeting of the Committee appointed by the residents to get the Arowheona Township brought under (he Town Districts Act, was held at Mr Q. Edgeler'a residence, last Thursday erasing. Pre* seut—Messrs Lee, (Chairman), Boulter, Vallender, King, Edgeler, Frew, .and Fletcher. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and^confirmed. CORRESPONDBNOI. THE ELECTION. Two letters were read from the Hon. W. Rolleaton. The first has already ap» peared in this paper, aud the second was to the effect that he bed laid the matters referred to him before the Solicitor General and the Hon Sir Robert Stout; and a special clause bad been inserted in the Special Powers and Contracts Bill to meet the case. A letter was also read from Mr W. 0. Aspinall, solicitor, Temuks, covering one he had received from Mr G, S. Cooper, Under-Secretary, re the appointment of Returning Officer, date and place of first election, etc., after con* sideration of which it was prdpesed by Mr Edgeler, seconded by Mr Frew, and carried —“ That Mr W. Wills be the Returning Officer to conduct the first election of the Board of Commissioners ; that the election bs held at Mr Lee’s ■ store, Wilkin street, Arowhenua, on Saturday, August 7th, between (he hours of 0 s.m. and 6 p.m.; that the first meeting of th Board be held oo Tuesday, August 10th, at Mr Lee’s store, at 7.30 p.m.” ; ; MEMBERSHIP OF THE BOARD.

A conversation then ensued ae to whether it was competent for the Committee to decide whether the Board:should consist of five or seven members, and ultimately it wae resolved on the motion of Mr Edgoler, seconded by Mr Frew—“That in the opinion of this Committee the Board should consist of seven members.” This being all the business the meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the Chairman, and to Mr Edgeler for the Use of his house to hold the meeting in.
