AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT,
GERALDINE. Messrs J. Mundell and Co. report sales for the week ending Saturday, 3rd July, 1886 : On Wednesday at the Geraldine monthly sale the number of slock yarded was not so large as at previous sales, but we have to report a decided improvement in values, especially in fat stock, which we think is likely to remain firm, owing to the scarcity of feed in tha district. The number yarded for the day; was 727 sheep and 39 head of cattle. Price* realised were : For crossbred wethura iu forward condition, 8* 3d ; croHxbisd ewes, Bs4-tboth store wethers, 7* Id ; crossbred Ismbs, very weedy, 2s 7d to 3s; old cows, fit for the butcher, sold well at from £5 16s to £6 2s 6d ; forward store steers sold at £3 15a to £4lo*; cows, springing, £3 lOs to £4 ; yearling *teera and heifers, £1 Is.— On account of R. H. Paarpoinf, Esq., we offered 11 hackney and harness horses, and succeeded in placing several of them, but prices were exceedingly low. At Winchester Fair on Thursday there was a small entry of stock, especially of cattle, entered for sale. Of our entry we succeeded in selling 200 half-bred store wether* at 6s Id, 1 fat heifer at £5 7* 6d, 1 cow (springing) at £3 lbs, 1 do do at £4 12s 6d, and 1 do do at £3 17# 6d. At the Geraldine Yardwon Friday we submitted to auction oh account of F. W. Donkin, Esq;, 71 bead-of mixed cattle, and considering their low condition fair prices were received. We told every head at the following prices, viz. : 3-year-old store : steers, £4 17s 6d ; 2-yoar-old steers, £2 14s ; calve# end yearling*, 15s; bull calves, 21# ; dry cows, £5 5a to £7 7a each.
Sheepskin*—At our last sale of skiou we catalogued nearly 3000, Factory skins brought ,3s 2d ; butchers’ crossbreds, 2s 8d to 3s Id ; do merinos, Is 9d to 2s 7d | country skins, Is 6d to 3s 3d. Fat—We have received ; and sold from three to four tons of rough 'and rendered fat at from £7 to £lO per topi. Country Sales—We held a clearing sale of farm stock for Mr 0. Nicholson at his farm, Waitohi, on the ,22nd June. The sale was well attended by the local farmers and all the stock was sold at fully market rates. Sheep—Nearly fat, 5« lOd to 6s; crossbred ewes, 2s 4d to 2a 9:1 ; lambs, 2s 4H to 25,7 d. Horses and farm implements at good pric-S, and the unexpired lease of farm of 507 acres, having three years to run, £l2O.
We also held a clearing sale for Mr Robert Day at his farm on the Point road on Wednesday last,.the 30th June. The «aW : drew -a good attendance of buyers and fair prices were obtained ! for all the stock; The draught horses were not very heavy, but all good sorts and met with fair competition—B of them brought from £lO 10s : to £24 10s, being an average of a iitfcle over £ls each. Danish oats, ls : 10i to Is ll|d per bushel.; Waggons, ploughs, harness* &c., at satisfactory prices. We also sole 30 acres freehold land on tile Point road at £10.5s per acre. Horses—There was only .a dmail entry at Our bazaatf on Saturday,, hot with one exception we sold all entered, Thera is enquiry and good, dumandj for young sound draught horses, and'al| coming forward of this class; quick sale. We quote heavy draughts jrotn £l2 to £25 ; medium do, from £10to'£18; backs and light harnsas horses according to age, stamp and quality. . We have enquiries for first-class harness , horses and can place two teams of good-draught sorts.
