TEMUKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the Temuka Scheol Committee took place last Tuesday evening. Present—Messrs Brown (Chairman), Blyth, Cooper, and Miles. MINUTES. The minutes of the last monthly and two special meetings were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Outward correspondence (two letters to the Board of Education) was read and approved. A letrer was received from the Board of Education, stating that the sum of £2 had been granted to the Committee for ladders, and £1 (half cost) for parallel bars. HEAD MASTER'S REPORT. The Head Master's report for the month was read. He reported the average weekly roll to be: Boys 177.5, girls 142.5, total 320;aaverage attendance: boys 132.8, girls 99.5, highest attendance : boys 140, girls 117, total 257. Twelve pupils were now taking the secondary subjects, the number last quarter boiDg the same. He called special attention to the irregular attendance at the school, and furnished a list of those who bad attended irregularly, slating that if the Committee would do anything to increase the attendance it would be of the greatest benefit to the school. The stationery fees for the quarter bid fair to be larger in amount than they were last quarter. Some chalk was required, several small repairs needed attention, and a few hat pegs for the use of the teachers were required. The Head Master concluded his report by stating that before the paarllel bars were put up he should like to give a few directions. IHE LADDERS, >TC. Proposed by Mr Miles seconded by Mr Coopf-r, and carried "Th»t Mr Blyth get the ladders made, odb i!oft and one 10ft, and also confer with the Head Master re the parallel bars, and havo them erected ; and also have the hat pegs mentioned by tlie Head Kaster put up. io m>ke enquiries into the matter of the proposed disrating of the school, and if necessary to call a public meeting on the subject, reported that the Act did not provide any way for 60 doing. After a few remarks it was proposed by Mrßlyth, seconded by Mr Cooper, and carried—" That this Committee take no steps in the matter, especially considering that there aro 13 pupils takiog advantage of the secondary education." IRREGULAR ATTENDANCE. The subject of the irregular attendance of many of the children at the school was then discussed. The Secretsry was instructed to obtiin the assistance of the police in endeavoring to enforce the attendance of those children who had not been regularly attending the school. I VISITOR. Mr Brown reported that he had visited the school, and had drawn tho children's attention to the necessity of paying their fees for stationery and fuel. He had had all the spouting cleaned out and there was now no leakage, Mr Biyth was appointed visitor for the ensuing month. COAL. Tenders for the supply of coal were then considered. Proposed by Mr Blyth, seconded by Mr Cooper, and carried—" That the tender of Mr McCann for tho supply of Newcastle coal at 29s per ton be accepted, to be delivered at the school." The meeting' then terminated.
