TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Temuks Town Board was held lost night. Present —Messrs K. F. Gray (Chairman), Brown, Blytb, Mason, and Quinn. CORRESPONDENCE. After reading the minutes, correspondence was read— From the Property Tax Commissioner, stating that in the opinion ol the writer the Salvation Army Barracks was exempt from rates.—On the motion of Mr Brown, seconded hy Mr Mason, it was decided to refund the rates collected from the Salvation Army. From Mr J. Brown, asking for the erection of a lamp at the corner of Cass street. Prom the Jii-v. Mr Thomas, asking for a lump to be placed near the Pu-sonage.—-After some conversation, in which donht was expressed as to whenhe lumps would be required, the Chairman HUgtresfed (he matter to 1). .-f.-rred noli! next meeting, so as <ee whether more light was necessary. From the Mechanics’ Institute, asking to hwa a < 1 rain out at the back of the Town Bonn! Office and the Mechanics’ InstiMi'o. —U whs urged 'hat the remedy was to fill up Mn> piece, and it was decided not to entertain the application. From Mr 0. J. Rayner and several oth u rs. cal 1 incr attention to tho way the Tetrink« River was flooding the lower part of the town. —The Overseer said it could be obviated by filling up the gully in Cass street. —The Chairman said they would hare to handle the matter delicately, ae if they went outside their own boundary they would render themselves liable for damages. It should he done under'he “River Conservators Act.” It would have to be done some day.—Mr Blyth said the question was, Had they power to do anything? —On the motion of Mr Quinn, seconded by Mr Mason, the Overseer was ordered to report on (he matter at the next meeting. THE FIRE-BELL. The Chairman said the Bell Committee had ordered a bell from Messrs A. and T. Burt, weight 17(?lbs, size 4in. more in diameter than the last bell. The old bell would be taken as part payment. LAMPS. Only one tender, that of Mr J. Ogilvie, for erecting lamps was re-e-ived. The amount of the tender was £lO ICD, and it. was accepted. ENCROACHING FENCE. Mr Blyth stated that the fence at tinhack of Mr P. Wareing’s section was growing across the road, and required looking alter.—lt was decided to call the owner’s attention to it. overseer’s report. The Overseer’s report was to the effect that during the past month he had employed one m m days in reoairinar the dividing fence between Quinn’s paddock and the Board’s yard, clearing out water-channels, etc. He recommended finishing clearing out. the water table, patching main road, and mending the footpaths with fine-screened shingle ; a two-liorse team for 2 or 3 days would be sufficient. It would be easy to patch up the footpath in front of the Post Office. The balance to credit on May 1 1886 was £153 9s 9d. The sanitary condition of the town was very satisfactory. UNREGISTERED DOG*. In reply to a question by Mr Quinn, the Clerk said the police had reported to him they could'not find any unregistered dogs. He had registered 45 dogs, against 64 last year.—The Clerk was instructed to call the attention of the police to the matter. TIB FOOTPATHS. With regard to the place in front rf the Post Office, the Overseer said it, could be done easily. The footpath between lombs’ and the Bank of New Zealand would require shingling. He intended logo Timaru to.see the new process adopted by Mr Dale.—On the motion of Mr Quinn, seconded by Mr Brown, it was resolved—That the Clerk ascertain the cost of laying down asphalt at, per chain and report at next meeting.” GODLEY STREET. Mr Elytl» suggested that som thing shot! d be done to God ley Street leading to the Wesleyan Parsonage,—On the motion of Mr Mason it was decMel that the Overseer report on the street, and if worth calling tenders for to do so, but if the cost would be under £5 to do the work by day labor. ACCOUNTS, Accounts to the amount of £l6 Is were passed for payment and the meeting terminated.
