ORARI BRIDGE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the Orari Bridge School Committee w»a held in the schoolroom on March 20th. Present— Messrs Lewis Grant (Chairman), Win. Ashby, J. Wharton, and S. Gould. MINUTES. The minutes of 'he previous meeting were read and confirmed. master's report. The Master’s report showed the number on the roll to be : Males 27, females 22, total 49 ; average attendance, males 14.23, females 21.3 ; total for the last three weeks, 35.26. Mr Westropp also reported that some of the children came to school very late, and hoped the Committee would take some steps to remedy the same. On the motion of Mr Gould, seconded by Mr Ashby, it was resolved to ask Mr Westropp to furnish the Committee with a her of the names of those children who came lata, SCHOOL STATIONERY. Mr Ashby proposed, and Mr Wharton seconded—“ That the master be asked to collect all outstanding accounts for hooks sold, by the third Saturday in April.” VACANCY ON THE BOARD. The Board of Education forwarded a nomination paper in reference to the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr Stewait, but as ther« *as not sufficient information before tho Committee as to « suitable candidate no steps were taken in the matter, inspector’s REPORT. The Inspector's report on the last examination was laid on the table. It was as follows ;

“ I am pleased to see in the school a few evidences of a healthier tone ; but the standard of attainment generally leaves much to be desired. The variety of copy books in use has disappeared and those of Mr Yere Foster have been universally adopted. Th e is a step in the right direction, and whether the style be of the most approved character or not, may be trusted with the exercise of greater care than has hitherto been observed to raise the writing above the low level which it still occupies. Mr Robertson obtains a very fair measure of success with Standard I and the infante. In the reading, however, of Stand an! I and the majority of of subjects in Standard II there is much room for improvement. The arithmetic of Standard IY and Standard V (if frequent'y insufficient) is of fair accuracy ; In Standard 111 notation shows the greatest weakness, and more attention ought to be given to map drawing.—W. AHDERson, Inspector.” The following is the list of Standards and o. the results :

Records: Satisfactory. General condition ; Still behind a fair average. Percentage of passes ; On roll number of school, 36.5 ; on number in Standards, 65.5. Percentage of failures : 32.1. Proposed by Mr Gould, seconded by Mr Mr Ashby, and carried—“ That the report be approved ®f, and that it be published in the tvo local papers.” miscellaneous. It was proposed by Mr Wharton, seconded by Mr Gould, and carried—- “ That the Board be asked for a grant for sub-dividing the school grounds from the master's private grounds.” Messrs Wharto i and Gould were appointed visirors for the ensuing month. The meeting then adjourned till the third Saturday in April.
