ASHBURTON MARKETS.

Mr E. Q. fetavely, for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, reports as follows At the Ashburton Yards on Tuesday about 3500 sheep, chiefly stores, and fair entries of cattle and pigs were penned. Sheep.—Somewhat better; improved values and demand for crossbred lambs ; fat crossbred wethers, 8s Id; mixed, 7s Id; fat merino ewes, 3s; crossbred lambs, 2s 8d to 3s 4d and 4s 7d ; sound mouth merino ewes, 2s; cull do, 8d to lOd, halfbred down ewes, 4s 2d ; full mouth crossbred ewes, 2s 8d; 2-tooth crossbreds, low condition, 3s 7d. No demand for pigs, weaners 3s €d.

Cattle.—Quiet, values unaltered. Eat cows, £5 to £5 17s 6d ; equal to 17s 6d per hundred, forward bullocks, £4 6s; medium dairy cows, £4; twenty month steers, £2 10s; yearlings, £1 ss.

AUSTRALIAN MARKETS.

Melbourne, March 22.

The Melbourne Manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand (Limited) reports on the local markets as follows Shipping wheat is quieter, bat steady, at 4s 3d to 4s 4d. Malting barley shows no improvement at’ 1 3s 6d to 4s 3d. New Zealand oats-r-Feed sorts are steady, but not active, at 2sb9<! to 3s; milling ditto is in moderate enquiry at 3s Id to 3s 3d ; under bond, 2s 3d to 2s 6d.

ENGLISH MARKETS.

London, March 22.

The wool by the R.M.b. Kaikoura will be admitted into the catalogue of the approaching wool sales. The cargoes by the Illawarr*iThoniaß Stephens, and Yallaroi, from Sydney ; Wanganui, from Napier; Glen more, from Lyttelton ; and Ariadne, from Adelaide, bare been excluded, 296,000 bales have arrived, of which 50,000 have been sent direct to the manufacturers, and the number available for the sales, adding 25,000 reserved from. Inst sales, is 271,000. ________
