COMMERCIAL.
SALE OF PROPERTIES.
Mr K. F. Gray held a sale of properties at Temnka on Thursday last. There was a fair attendance of buyers, but bidding lacked spirit, and speculators, views of values hardly accorded with those of sellers. Lot 1, Mr Arenas’ property, fronting on Railway Terrace, comprising section and three cottages, was bid for up to £390, when it was passed in ; Lot 2, a section at Winchester, was passed in at £2O; Lot 3, a J-acre section aod cottage at Winchester was passed in at £7O ; Lot 4, |-acre and cottage near the Catholic Church, the property of the late Mrs Rowe, fetched £l2O ; Lot 5, £-acre and cottage, near the Public School, the property of Mr G. H. Thompson, was passed ) in at £100; Lot 6, £acre and cottage, Wilkin atreet, Arowbenua, was bought in st £l2O ; Lot 7, section and cottage, Arowbenua, was also bought in ; Lot 8, J-ecre section fronting on Railway Terrace, Winchester, brought £l3. Four other sections in Arowbenua were passed in. The Auctioneer expects to place some of tbe properties privately during the next few days.
RAM AND EWE FAIR.
The South Canterbury Ram and Ewe Fair at the Waahdyke Yards, yesterday, was well attended. The entries were numerous and good, but few lots, in proportion to the number entered, changed hands. Prices of the lots acquitted on the whole, were, however, fair.
TIMARU MARKETS,
The market is showing increased animation. Deliveries during the week have been very large. Wheat Prime Tuscan and velvet, 3s 4d ; red chaff, 3s 2d ; medium quality, 2s 101 and upwards. Oats—Prices remain about the same as last week, viz., good milling, 2s; long feed, IslOd. Barley—Malting, Ss.
CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE.
The Corn Exchange reports for the week ending Friday evening, the 19th March
Large quantities of grain of all kinds have been placed on the market during the week, and prices in the main compare favorably with those of last week. Wheat is sought after, especially Tuscan, which is firm up to 2s 6d ; Hunters and pearl, 3s 4d ; large paresis of extra prime, a fraction more—second grades, 2d less—whole fowl wheat, 2s ltd to 3s, and broken wheat, at 2a 7d to 2a 9d, is still wanted. Oats have had rather more business passing. The slight drop reported last weak has enabled buyers to ship to intercolonial market?. Milling are worth 2s Id to 2s l|d ; short feed, 2a to 2$ Id ; long sorts, Is lOd to 2s. Barley is very weak, only extra prime malting commanding attention at 3s 3d to 3s fid. Inferior malting is quite neglected. Feed sorts are plentiful at 2s to2«3d.
Blue Peas are firm, up to 4s being paid for hand threshed, machine threshed being worth 3s Od to 3 s 9dl Beans are offering, butXthere are few sales to report. Buyers are ofLring 2s 91. Kyegrass is slightly eaaiei\ Machinedressed remains at from 5s 3d\ to 5s 9d, while farmers’ parcels are irregular at from 3s 6d to 4* 6J. Cocbfoptus dull of sale, 4d being the top price fyr clean heavy seed. \
Dairy produce remains firm at last quotations, especially extra prime butter suitable for the Sydney market. The above prices are for delivery f.o.b. Lyttelton.
CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS.
At the Addington Yards on Wednesday full yards of all kinds of stock sent forward. Attendance of buyers and others about an average one. The fat cattle offered were of various qualities ; the demand a very fair one. Rales made at quite late rates, vis., 17s to 18s 6d per 1001 b. Steers sold at from £5 16s to £7 2s fid ; heifers, £4 to £6 2s fid. The large number of fat sheep met with a limited local requirement, a dull sale being the consequence ; rates, however, show no alteration on those lately quoted. Crossbred wethers sold at from 6s 9d to 9s ; crossbred ewes, 4s fid to 6s 9d; merino wethers, 3s to 5s 3d, being from Id to lsd per lb, as per quality. A heavy entry of store sheep yarded, with but few buyers operating, and no improvement was to be observed in lately quoted values. Lines of sound market crossbred ewes sold at from 2s 9d to 3s 6d per head; a line of three-quarter fat halfbred wethers at 5s 3d. A good number of fat lambs penned, demand middling, sales from 3s 3d to 5s 9d per head. A fairly good entry of store cattle met with but little enquiry. No alteration to report in current values. A good entry of pigs yarded. A slightly better demand shown for stores, and values advanced somewhat; for porkers and larger pigs very little enquiry was manifested, and the prices were low.
