Tenders have been invited on behalf of the City of Melbourne tor a Io»n of £150,000, at 4 per cent. The minimum has been fixed at £lO3, and tenders will close oH the IQth March. The R.M.b. Tainui’arrived at Plymouth this morning, with her frozen meat in good order. Obituary—Mr Justice Clarke, Victorian Judge. For the regatta at Rockway in June, 10,000 dollars have been offered in prize money if Beach will compete.

The valuable diamonds stolen some time ago from Lady Hill, of Byrnkenalh, Denbighshire, have been recovered.
Lord Capell, heir to the Earl of Essex, who has been appointed Aide-de-camp to Lord Caiington, has sailed for Sydney. The University of Cambridge will confer the degree of Master of Arts on Mr Charles Todd, of South Australia. In the House of Commons, Mr i’hos, Sexton, M.P, for Sligo South, has given notice of a motion requesting the Government to open up negotiations with the view of establishing a universal penny postage.
Mr John Morley, Chief Secretary for Ireland, considers another general election probable shortly. In the House of Commons last night, the Right Hon. H, Holmes, Member for Dubli* University, gave a notice ot motion to the effect that the House is unwilling to vote the money required for carrying on civil government in Ireland until it is informed of the policy of Her Majesty’s Government with re* gard to the maintenance ot order in Ireland.
The Socialist leaders, who were committed for trial, have been admitted to bail.
Victoria has been promised 40u0ft of space in the court originally allotted to Tasmania, which that colony gave up.

Mr Octavius Morgan, who resigned bis seat for Bsttersea in consequence of having been concerned in Government contracts at the time of his election, has been re-elected for that constituency.
Lord Randolph Churchill, in a speech at Manchester, said the Conservative party would support a Liberal or a coalition Government.
The Assets Company, which was formed by the Oriental Banking Ohm pany is offering to purchase the deposits in the Commercial Bank of South Australia.
