GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

TO THE EDITOR. Magna est veritas et pratvalehit. Sir, —With reference to the above Board I cannot, I am bound to say, but express rny own opinion but the opinion of nearly all, if not all, of tire Geraldine people. It is now they are beginning to see their faults—it is now they are beginning to hang their heads in shame for ever forming a Town Board, I, for one, took no part one way or the other in its formation, as it did not interest me. The present members rushed into it headlong, quite ignorant of what they were doing. I want to show some, if they do not know it already, how they have been duped ; even the very men that compose the Town Board now see they were wrong. There were a few who stood out against haring a Town Board, and they were scoffed at : but their words are coming only too true. They were told that rates and taxes, etc., would nptbe raised, and lots of other things, buf now we gee special meeting of the Board being held to consider rates and taxes, and valuations being taken. They got a certain amo«nt from the Road Board, which I suppose is nearly all gone. And pray tell us how we see an odd patch of asphalt here and there? I would warn strangers when they come to Geraldine to beware of where the footpaths are asphalted, for they might lose their boots in it ; for it is more like a mess of burgoo than asphalt. We see an odd lamp here and there that would puzzle a man at night time with a horse, more so than if tjiere were none at all. I have often found it so myself, apd am sure others can testify the same—that the light ot one lamp dazzles your eyes when you leave it till you come to another ; you are blinded in the dark between the two lamps. It is a wonder to me there has not been a collision ere now. I remember one night coming home, and I had a narrow escape from' funning' iopo a horse and trap ; so I say tlmt ns the lamps are placed it would be fur better to have none at all. T am afraid, Mr Editor, I am taking up to much of your

valuable apace, but to put the who’o thing in a nutshell: The Geraldine Town Board is nearly played out. There is disunion in the camp. Fancy then; passing a resolution at one meeting that they wouldn’t pound any cattle off the back roads and at their next meeting rescinding that altogether, without giving any notice at all to the public ! At the last meeting but one they had to send round the whip to secure a quorum, and they just barely saved themselves; but on last Thursday the members were summoned on a special meeting, and the whip went round as before, but this time they failed, as they could not secure a quorum, as you can see from your report of Saturday the 13th. Under the circumstances, I understand there will soon be a general election of the Town Board. Its dissolution is soon expected, and, as far as I can gather information, there will be suitable candidates come forward on the principle of dissolving tbe Town Board, and lam certain those are the men who will win. The Geraldine people have had sufficient now ; they are not going to be duped this time ; they are not going to wait till they are heavily taxed. Who were the instigator of the Town Board ? It was got up by a couple, to get So-and-so a billet, and because the earnings of the workmen would find its way to the storekeepers who largely compose the same. Finally, I am glad to learn of the split in the Cabinet. Now they can drink to the dregs the cup of humiliation which they have filled for themselves, —I am, etc., Pbo Bono Publico.
