GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held on Tuesday evening. Present —Mr R. H. Pearpoint (Chairman), and Messrs J. Huffey, J. Mundell, and R, Taylor. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, CORRESPONDENCE. Outward correspondence was read and approved. Inward was read as follows ; From Mr L. Newport, stating he bad transferred his interest in the lamplighting contract to Mr W, Frude. From Mr F. W, Stubbs, Clerk to the Geraldine County Council, forwarding an account for the Board’s share of the cost of administering the Licensing Act in the Raukapuka district, for the year ended June 30th, 1885.—Mr Taylor proposed, Mr Mundell seconded, and it was carried —‘‘That this Board fails to see the justice of being called upon to pay about four-fifths of the cost of administering the Licensing Act within the Raukapuka Licensing district, there being four licensed houses outside and only three within the Town district, and those outside entail a larger expenditure than the three within the Town district; therefore the Board would recommend that the Council re-consider the matter and adjust the accounts on a more equitable basis.” From the Lands Registry Office, forwarding Crown grant for section 72. From the Town Ranger, reporting that he had impounded five cows found wandaring on the streets during the month. One owner had paid the fine, and the other two intended doing so. From the Treasury, Wellington, stating that the sum of £7 19s had been paid to the credit of the Board, being the amount of half the cost of asphalting the footpath in front of the Courthouse. overseer's report. Sherratt’s, and B. Gibson’s properties, and the work is now standing much better. I would recommend that all the asphalt which requires it should be top-dressed with stuff similar to Messrs Dunlop, etc. —The big stones have worked up considerably on some of the roads, particularly the Pleasant Valley road, during the dry weather. Will the Board instruct me what to do in the matter] —The water-tables and sides of the roads are getting covered with vegetation, such as thistles, docks, etc. ; something should be done with them.— The Valuation List has been open for inspection aa instructed by the Board, and remains so until the 15th day of February. The notices hgve been posted to all persons interested in accordance with the Act. Objections have j;o be sent in to the local body seyen days before the sitting of the Assessment Court. Will the Board appoint a Committee to receive and give instructions to the Clerk respecting them ? —During the month I have received £24, made up as follows:—Thos. Farrell, £4 7s 6d ; R. H.
