TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Temuka Road Board was held last Tuesday. Present—Messrs J. Talbot (Chairman), Quinn and J. Brown. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. SANITARY. The Chairman said that in reference to the Committee appointed to confer with the Town Board re sanitary matters, he had no time during the month to do anything in it. He would as soon as possible call the meeting together. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £253 19s were passed for payment. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and considered ; From Mr P. Dalton, asking for a few planks to make a culvert over a creek.— Granted. From Mr T. Burke, complaining of the sanitary condition of the* Sod Town Creek.—Mr Brown said the creek was in a bad condition, and required being cleaned. —The matter was dealt with in the Overseer’s.report. From Mr Ruddenklau, asking for half the sum of £35 which he had spent on protective works at the Rangitata.--In reply to the Chairman, the Overseer said he bad seen the work. Mr Ruddenklau had gone far beyond the point that he (the Overseer) agreed with him to go. Part of this was for the protection of bis own land. He did not think he ought to get more than half £2O, which had been originally agreed to. —It was decided that Mr Ruddenklau be informed that the Board cannot accede to his request for a further grant, as the work for which the original grant was mode was, in the opinion of the Board, ail that was necessary for the protection of the road, and any further work undertaken was for Mr Ruddenklau’s own benefit. From Mr Shiers, calling attention to the condition of the road between Deßenzy’s corner and Winchester.—The matter was left in the hands of the Overseer. From the Overseer, enclosing a list of the Reserves within the Road Board district.—lt was decided to make an effort to get the Reserves vested in the Board. RESIGNATION. Mr G. Bolton wrote, tendering hla resignation as Clerk. The Chairman said he regretted Mr Bolton’s resignation, as he had done the work well, but for bis own sake he hoped it would bo for his benefit. He thought it would be best to call for applications for the vacancy. As regards the salary, the amount was small for the work done, and the auditor had written a strong letter cn the subject. Mr Bolton’s resignation was accepted, ■nd it was decided to call for applications for the position at the former salary. SUBSIDIES. In reply to the Chairman, the Clerk read »letter he had written applying for a subsidy. The Chairman said he thought they would get about £SOO j they were to credit £4b9, the outstanding rates were aootn £429, and tries?, together with £SOO subsidy, would give them £1379. overseer’s report. The Overseer’s report was read ns follows : “ To the Chairman. “ Sir, —I have the honor to report for the past month as follows - “ Tenders have been called for forming George Town road, and for supply of stores. Applications have also been invited for lease of shingle reserve at Waitohi. “ Contract No. 47, is completed Nos. 39, 43 and 49 are completed with the exception of breaking the stones. “The bridge over Dunn’s creek near Orari has been made fit to carry sheep. 1 have bad stones broken on various roads and t|ie watertables at Winchester 1 cleaned.

“The creek through Arowhenua requ’res cleaning. “In regard to gorse on the roads 1 have not taken out any summonses yet as tbe occupiers in almost every case promise to clear it off as soon as possible. There has been a good deal of gorse cleared from the roads in the district during tbe past year. “ I have been to Timaru re piles. There are some there for sale that would suit the Boards purposes.—l have, etc., “F. Archer." It was decided to call for tenders for clearing tbe Arowhenua Creek. INTERVIEWS. Mr Thomas Parke interviewed the Board, and asked that the road in front of his house should be shingled, or something done to it. He also suggested that the road to the Beach should be made.— The Overseer was ordered to report on the matter. Mr W. Christmas waited on the Board to ask that something might be done to tbe drain in the Reserve he rents. He would agree to bear half the cost. —The Overseer was ordered t > report ou tbe matter. TENDERS. No tender was accepted for the supply of cement and stores. There were only two tenders in for forming the road to George Town, and that of Martin Dunn, £l3 17s 6d, was accepted. Fletcher’s tender of £.1310s 6d was informal. The Board then adjourned.
