ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, Dec. 21. A dispute has arisen between the members of the Anglo-Russian Afghan Frontier Commission relative to the control of certain pasturages on tlie proposed frontier. The question of appointing a successor to the late Sir Peter Scratchley is still unsettled. Sir Arthur Blytb, AgentGeneral for South Australia, has not taken part in the conference between the Agents-General aud the Secretary of State for the Colony with reference to New Guinea affairs, his Government objectiog to contribute to the cost of maintaining a protectorate over New Guinea beyond June next. The Army Office authorities have invited the Agents-Genera! to discuss with with them the desirableness of revising the regulations affecting the status oi retired officers. Ad a meeting of the Marylebmie Cricket Club, Lord Harris moved, and Mr W. G. Grace seconded—" That it is to be hoped that in future visits of Australian teams the convenience of Engli-h Clubs will be consul ted." Twentyeight matches have been arranged with the Melbourne Cricket Club, their engagement ending on September 2nd. Five vacant dates have been virtually lost on account of the indecision in sending Home a team. The matches against All-England and the Manchester Gentlemen will be played at Lords. The Australians are to receive half of the gross gate money.
