ASIATIC CHOLERA IN AUSTRALIA.
Brisbane, Dec. 14. Two more deaths are. reported op board the Dorunda. The medical authorities are in some doubt as to whether the disease io epidemic cholera or whether it is not due to the effects of eating tinned fish which contained a poisonous substance. Later. 1
The British-India Steam Navigatiop Company’s Dorunda arrived here to-day from Townsville, Fifteen fresh cases of sickness have broken out, and five deaths occurred on board the vessel since she left Townsville. The medical officer affirms his belief (bat the disease is undoubtedly cholera, and that it was introduced at Batavia, / Dec. 15.
The general health of the on board the Dorunda is reported to improving. It is believed the steps taken by the authorities to isolate the patients and persons with whom they have been in contact will be effectual in preventing the spread of the disease, |
