London, Dec. 12. ' New Zealand frozen mutton is quoted at 4|d per lb. This price ia merely nominal, but the market is decidedly firmer in tone.
Dec. 13. ’ It is reported that Mr Gladstone, Mr Chamberlain and Sir Wm. Vernon Harcourt are inclined to support an amendment which Mr Parnell intends to move on the Address-in-Reply, demanding Home Rule. The moderate Liberals are opposed to this step. New Zealand mutton is selling at 4d to 5d per lb. Dec. 14.
His Holiness the Pope has written a letter to Cardinal Manning, in which he strongly approves the establishment of Catholic schools in the colonies by voluntary subscriptions. The'French Chamber of Deputies will consider a proposal to increase the doty on wheat outside of that produced in Europe to nine francs sixty centimes. : The Queensland Government are urging the Home authorities to appoint Mr John Douglas as High Oommismissioner for New Guinea. The first cricket match of the season will be Lords v. Sheffield, and will be played on the 13th May, Dec. 15. It is announced that on the reassembling of Parliament Government will avail themselves of the earliest opportunity to ascertain whetner or not they possess the confidence of the House. Paris, Dec. The Committee of the Chamber of Deputies which was appointed to report on affairs in Tonquiu has concluded its sitting. Its recommendation has now been made public. The Committee expresses itself in favor of the complete withdrawal of the French troops from Tonqoin. Rio de Janeiro, Dec. 14.
The s.s, lonic, from Lyttelton (Nov. 21st), left here last night for London. Her frozen meat cargo is in good condition. Cairo, Dec. 13.
Constant fighting is taking place between the British troops at Knoshay and the Soudanese Arabs in the vicinity. Several casualties are taking place daily.

Melbourne, Dec. 14. The remains of General Scratcbley. were landed from Sydney to-day. Dec. 15. The s.s. Te Anau sailed this afternoon for the Bluff. The Manapouri arrived from the Bluff. Adelaide, Dee. 14. His Excellency the Governor, Sir William Robinson, s performed the ceremony of opening the new Arcade on Saturday. A crowd of the unemployed assembled and hooted His Excellency because he drove in an imported carriage, and not in one manufactured in the colony. Sydney, Deo, 15. Telegrams from Townsville announce the wreck of the German steamship Paps. Her crew managed to escape in the ship’s boats, and landed at Townsville.
