TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held last Tuesday. Present— Messrs J. Talbot (Chairman), J. T. M. Hayhurst, and J. Brown. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From Mr R. Baxter, asking that his name to taken off the roll for Reserve 945, which had now been leased by Mr D. Hally.—The matter was ordered to be attended to. From Messrs Garrick and Cowlishaw, in reference to the sale of Mr Rhodes' land to the Board, and asking that it be legally transfered.—lt was decided to attend to it. From the Hon. W. Rolleston, enclosing letters from the Hon. L. Richardson, in reference to a footbridge over the Rangitata River.—The Chairman explained that this subject had been under discussion for a long time. The Temuka Board had promised £l5O, and the Geraldine Board, through Mr Postlethwaite, £250 towards it, but the Boards at the Ashburton side had refused to contribute anything. According to the plans then prepared it would have cost £I2OO, but these had since been altered, and now plans were prepared for bridging the channel of the river only, which would cost only £250. He then read another letter from Mr Rolleston enclosing a telegram, which stated that the Government would do the work without any assistance from local bodies. From Mr W. Badger, stating that he was about to publish a book on local government, and asking the Board to take it.— It was decided to take six copies of the work. From Mr H. Waller, intimating that he i had transferred R.S. 24040, 300489, and 130108, 182 acres, to Mr C. Bowker, and asking that Mr C. Bowker'a name be placed on the ratepayer's roll. From Mr W. Hayhurst, and others, complaining of a nuisance created in Wilkin Street by Mr Oldfield'a pigs.— It was decided to call upon Mr Oldfield to abate the nuisance, and it was said he intended to sell the pigs at once. From Mr Philp, offering to sell 37 gallons of Stockholm tar to the Board at one shilling per gallon. —It was decided to purchase the same. From Mr J. H. Baker, with reference to the road to George Town. -As the dispute had already been settled no action was taken in the matter. overseer's report. The Overseer reported as follows : !t Tenders have been called for shingling McNuir's Road, Rangitata Railway station road, and a portion of Beattie's Road. Contract No. 38, shingling Kakahu Koad, is almost finished. No. 44, ehingling Upper Swamp Road, and No. 40, shingling at Rangitata, are likewise nearly completed. The shingliDg of the Boiling Down Road is not yet started, although the specified time has expired. The contractor for this work has been busily employed with his other contracts. The concrete culvert, Waitohi, is finished with the exception of one day's work, In accordance with instructions, I have placed some planks on trestles at the Oxford Railway Bridge, at a trifling cost for labor. Some slight hand-railing is required to make it safe for children. With yourjpermission I have delivered to the Linseed Factory Company 1456 feet o£ timber. Several small works that are authorised I purpose doing this month. —.Re Mr White's application : A pipe culvert across White's Road would be the cheapest way to take away the water complained of by him." TENDERS. The following tenders were opened and considered: — Contract No. 48—Shingling, Rangitata : W. Lewis, Is s£d per yard ; W. Hopkinson, Is 3d per yard (accepted). No. 49—Shingling McNair's Road : E. Counihao, U Id per yard; W. Lewis, Is 61 per yard ; W. Hopkinson, Is 3d per yard (accepted). No. 50—Shingling Beattie's Road : W. Lewis, 3s 4d per yard; E. Counihan, 2s 9|d (accepted). The Board then adjourned.
