TIMARU HARBOR BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting; of the i above was held yesterdny. ' A letter was read from the Government Life Acaurance Association enclosing a form of application for a loan, in view of the Harbor Board's proposal to borrow i £IOO,OOO. The Association was prepared to advance money as desired by the Board. The offer cf the Lyttelton Harbor Board with regard to a dredge was declined, the Board being of opinion that the Oamaru dredge would be more suitable. The Clerk of Works reported that during the month one length of monolith (18fi) had been added to the' finished work, making the distance completed 416 feet, and the foundations extended a further distance of 40ft. The whole of the blocks necessary to complete this contract are now made, and the contract time for oom--1 pletion, as per specification, will expire on November 1,1885. Good progress is now being made with the Moody Wharf, contract No. 8, as better driving ground is reached, The piling is now completed for a distance of 220 feet, and the other portions of the work are progressing satisfactorily. The Standing Committee reported that " having obtained Mr Goodall's plan for laying rails on the Moody Wharf, show ing the connections with Government sidings, and his report thereon, they have agreed to have four linos of rail on the wharf and siding connections with the Government lines, and suggest tint the question of building a store should stand over till the works are nearer completion. Replies having been received from various Harbor Boards rt mode of lighting wharf, when working vessels at uight, and by whom the expense was usually bom<s, the Committee cannot see their <ray to recommend the Board to undertake the lighting. The Committee h.id seen the letter from the Assistant-Engineer N.Z. Railways, asking the Biardto be ir part of the cost of ruainUiniug the rotid from Heaton street to the concrete works, and finding that the road is a public one they see no reason why the Board should contribute to the cost of maintaining it." The tender of MessrH Palliser and Jones for wharf extension, the amount of which was £l9ll 19a, was accepted. Accounts the amount of £2682 153 9d were passed for payment. The (nesting than adjournsd.
