Melbourne, Sept. 23. The trial of Seymour R. Robinson, for robbery from the Hotham branch of the Federal Bank, was concluded to-day, when the prisoner was sentenced to twelve month*’ imprisonment. Sept. 24. The Steam Navigation Board recommend the despatch of a steamer to the locality where the Gulf of Carpentaria was recently wrecked, in order to search for the sunken rock on which it is believed she struck.
The Union Steamship Company’s s,s. Manapouri arrived here this morning from the Bluff. Mr Service, the Victorian Premier, has been informed by the Government of South Australia that it is intended (o introduce a Bill into Parliament in order to provide for the representation of that colony on the Federal Council, which holds its first sitting in Hobart. Sydney, Sept, 23.
The amendment moved by Mr Burnes to the Address in Reply, censuring Government for not calling Parliament together at on earlier date, was rejected last night by a majority of 51 to 18. The Cabinet has decided to join New Zealand in subsidising a San Francisco mail service ; the amount to be paid by New South Wales to be £7OOO per annum. A case of smallpox has made its appearance in Randwick. The whole of the members of the family in which it occurred hove been placed in quarantine. Sailed, last night—Hauroto, for Wellington.
