" Gentlemen,—l have the honor to report that since last regular Board day contract No. 12 has been completed, making 138| yards shingle spread on footpaths—ln Main South Road from Craig's corner to Darroch's corner about 22 chains, 5 chains in Dyson's street, 8 chains in Allnutt street, and about 4 chains in Birkett street, taking a little over 3 yards to the chain.
" According to resolution passed at the last regular meeting, I have had all gorse and broom grubbed in streets and carted, employing 1 man 6 days, and 1 horse, dray and man 6 hours carting away rubbish.
" The contract for No. 11, kerbing and channelling, commenced last Monday week, Aug. 24th, and the work is progressing favorably, as there are now put down 5J chains channelling and about 2£ chains kerbing. "I think when the contract is finished there will be a few loads of surplus clay, etc., which I should suggest be carted to Wilmshurst road, only a few chains away, to fill up low places opposite Messrs Thomson and Radford's, the same work 1 mentioned last Board day. "I have advertised for contract No. 13, forming and shingling in Ewen road, a distance of 7i chains, which 1 estimate to coat £—, tenders for which are now before you. " I should also recommend the Board to purchase a brand to put on all tools, as a spade was taken out of the Fire Brigade building some time ago. " The balance in the Bank at last regular meeting was £264 14s 3d, and after paying July's accounts, as passed, amounting *.o £43 7s 3d, and paying money collected into the Bank to Sept. Ist, 1885 (rateß £2 12s, rent of reserve £llos, and fee under building regulations ss), it leaves a credit balance in Bank on Sept. Ist of £225 13s 4d.
" As Inspector of Nuisances I have the honor to report that the sanitary condition of the town is very satisfactory. I had one complaint made to me respecting a closet at an unoccupied house, but as soon as I saw the owner he had it remedied at once. There is also a great nuisance when there is any wind at all in the Main South road on the west side from High street to section No. through paper blowing about both on footpaths and streets, but I could not trace where it originated from, as most of the storekeepers say they collect their paper, etc., to the back of their premises and then burn it.—l am, etc., "George Dyson." accounts.
Accounts to the amount of £2l lis 2d were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned. ____^ mmmmmmmmmma .
