From the Manager of the Timaru Herald, asking for a share of the advertising.—Mr Maslin moved and Mr Huffey seconded : " That the Board advertise with the Herald for the next six months ; with the Geraldine County Times for the next half-year, and with the Geraldine Guardian for the following half-year."—As an amendment Mr Farrell moved and Mr Mundell seconded : " That tenders be called for advertising for twelve months."—The amendment was carried on the casting vote of the Chairman. From Town Ranger, enclosing Lis report for past month. From Crown Lands Office, in reference to the of title of reserves, which would shortly be ready. From the Agent of the Bank of New r Zealand, Geraldine, advising the payment of £4 15s to the Board's credit, ' being the amount received from the Paymaster-General. TENDERS. - The following tenders were opened and considered for leasing reserves : T.B. No. 249—W. Heney, £1 per annum (accepted). Blocks 4 and s—l hos. Farrell, 16s 6d per acre per annum (accepted) ; Thoa. Wan 1 ,15 s per acre ; John Brepn, 25s per acre (informal) ; M. Connolly, 10s per acre. ■r.S. 291, 292, 299 and 300—Thos. THE POUND RESERVE, The memo, from the Crown Lands Office stated that Reserve 1373 (the Pound, Reserve) is hot yet vested in any local body.—lt was resolved to apply for the resprve tn be vested in the Bo«rd, with the exception of the piece applied for by the Geraldine Rifle Corps for a drillshcd site. OVERSEER'S EEPORT. This was read «n follows : M bince last mpeiing of the Board the turface-men have been at work in various pultfl of the district as follows : The JtOtbridge in Maslin's ptiddock, the i,ecessary work near John's and Rambld'p, gravelling of Pine street, & portion

of Talbot street and the Waihi Terrace road, including floating certain portions of the asphalt,—Mr Corkery has commenced bis contract in Wilson street ; Grindall is working with him. They have finished the concrete work of the first culvert. According to the specifications, the centractor has to spread 200 cubic yards of stuff over this culvert and in the gully, and 1 would suggest that the stuff for this purpose should be obtained from the junction of Wilson street with High street. This would reduce the roadway, and make a better outlet for the water lying on Messrs Mllraith's, Young's and Frude's sections. The extra cost of this work would be ypry trifling considering the advantage to be gained, and it would make all the roads more uniform. — Re flushing the drains on Reserve 696—1 n conjunction with the Works Committee, I inspected the probable course to bring a flow of water out of the Waihi river, near Strathnoon Cottage, and have to report as follows : That the Committee are satisfied that a good fall could be obtained to bring the water right through the town, but at the same timo state that a long length of fluming would have to be put in to raise the water to the level of the roadway near to McKenzie's old ui'll, and this would involve a heavy outlay. The Committee are also of opinion that the services of a surveyor must be obtained to ascertain the levels and prepare plans and specifications for the carrying out of this work. There is also a possibility of the river becoming dry, when the head works would have to be put in. Further that a public meeting of the ratepayers interested must be held before a work of this kind could be undertaken by the Boarl. — Re protective work opposite Coltman's—The Works Committee recommend that an earthwork dam be thrown up at a point marked A on the accompanying sketch, made sufficiently strong and high to resist the pressuie of water likely to lodge iu the basin ; th« end of the dam to be protected with two earthenware crates filled with big stones after being embedded to the proper level ; tc cover the dam with soil or loam to a good slope on both sides, sowing the whole down in grass, afterwards to plant the basin with good stout willows, when it is anticipated that the basin will silt up and cause the willows to grow more rapidly.—Since the last meeting I have received £1 lis 6d and lodged the same to the Board's credit with the Bank.—l am, etc., " C. B. Shbrratt, " Overseer to the Board."

It was resolved that the Works Committee inspect the proposed alteration in the level of Wilson street.

On the motion of Mr Taylor, seconded by Mr Mundell, it was resolved to postpone the water works scheme. It was furthet resolved to call for tenders for the protective works opposite Coltman's. HIIOELLANEOUS. Mr Taylor drew the attention of the Board to the bad state of some of the asphalt, and it was resolved that the Works Committee aud Overseer inspect it, and see what was best to be done. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £6O 8s 6d were passed for payment, and the Board then resolved itself into a BOARD OF HEALTH, The Inspector of Nuisances' report was read, and showed that the township was iu a fair sapitary state. The drain lately cut through the College Reserve was made the receptacle for filth, from which a nuisance was likely to arise. The Inspector suggested that the College Board of Governors should be asked to lease or otherwise dispose of the reserve, so that the nuisances would cease to exist on it or be considerably abated.—lt was resolved to ask the College Board to abate the nuisance, as the drain which had been cut had not the effect on the drainage of the section that had been anticipated. This being all the business, the Board adjourned.
