GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The usual monthly meeting of this Committee was held on Friday erening. Present—Messrs N. Dunlop (Chairman), Geo. Ward, A. Sherratt, Tho*. Farrell, R. S. Cook, W. R. Lawson, and W. H. Lodge, MINUTES. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. A memo, was read from the Board of Education, notifying that £l2 8s had been paid to the credit of the Committee for the third quarter of the year, A letter was read from Master W, A. Sherratt, on behalf of the senior boys of the school, asking the Committee for a donation to svpplement a fund they weie raising to purchase a set ot cricketing materials.— After a discussion, it was resolved that the letter be acknowledged, at the same time regretting the Committee could not see their way clear to devote any portion of their funds in the above direction visitors’ report. Mr Farrell, on behaff of Mr Lodge and himself, the Visitors for tho past mqnth, reported that on visiting the school they found an attendance of 168, which was less than on other occasions, on account of sickness among tho children. They w.-re well satisfied wi h the state m which they found the school working. VISITORS. Messrs Cook and Sherratt were appointed visitors for the ensuing month. HEAD master’s REPORT. This report was read as follows I have the honor to report that the average attendance at school tor the past four weeks has been 163. Many of (he younger children attend irregularly, In some cases this is owing to sickness, but a number are absent who might attend. The school hell cracked a few weeks ago while bring rung. I did not report the matter before as 1 thought tha bell might last for a time.—l am, etc., Thos. Hughe*.

On the motion of Mr Lawson, seconded by Mr Ward, it was resolved to ask the Board to replace the bell with a new one. MISCELLANEOUS. The Chairman and Mr A, Sherratt, the sub-Conimittee appointed to see to the repairs to the fences, etc., being carried out, reported that the wt.rk had been done. It was resolved that Mr Mclilraith be given notice to abate the nuisance existing between his premises and the school ground. ACCOUNTS. Accounts were passed for payment as follow : —lncidental account, £4 8s ; special grant account for repairs, £5 13s 9d ; total, £lO Is 9d. i The meeting then terminated.
