THE TEMUKA PARK.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —While taking a refreshing stroll round the park yesterday, I could not help noticing (among other things) a block of land partially ploughed for cropping or re-laying down in grasses. On examining the soil I was struck with its peculiar suitableness for the growth of flax. It would be hard in South Canterbury to find a better. I do not know if the Board is doing this work or whether they have let it for cropping. A great improvement has been made in the avenues (part of the way) by trimming the under branches of some of the trees—especially “ Pinus Insignis.” I must say the people of Terauka should be proud of their park, and of.the exemplary manner in which it is kept round the fences and avenues. I must say I felt annoyed, after seeing sundry notices “ that dogs were not allowed within the domain,” etc., to see three youths clamber over the lence (a few chains beyond the school, from the town) with three dogs, which frightened ewes and lambs and attracted my attention.—l am, etc., Observer. Temuka, August I.7th, 1885.
