The Colonial and Indian Exhibition. —A mealing of those interested in this Exhibition was held in the Tiraaru Borough Council Chambers on Monday night. Although the Mayor had notified in the local prints that Dr Haast would be present, and invited the attendance of the burgesses, only three persons other than the Mayor, Town Councillors and Clerk put in an appearance. Dr Haast fully explained the object of the Exhibition. He said the Government of this colony were very anxious that the Exhibition should be a success, and in order that we should be placed in a foremost position in it, they would do all in their power to advance the colony and the interests of the exhibitors from it, and would take exhibits from our doors, send them to England, and if they were not sold at Home they would bring them back—doing all this free of expense to exhibitors. The New Zealand Court was to be arranged tastefully. At its entrance was to bo a fernery and waterfall, and passing through, a Maori house and figures of Maoris surrounded by their various implements of warfare, etc,, was next to be met with. Then the Court proper was to open to view. In this wore to be arranged the various timbers of the colony, building stone of all kinds, exhibits specially connected with the mining industry, home industries, and industries requiring large capital, the manufactures in which Now Zealand took a pride—an art gallery—and lastly a space specially devoted to the Government department, in which maps and publications directly affecting the colony would be found. Dr Haast then made a stirring appeal to the inhabitants of Timaru and district to take part in the Exhibition. They might send a plan and yiews of the breakwater, and a plan of the town, surrounded by views of the buildings or scenery. He made a strong appeal that something should be sent, and hoped a strong working Committee would be appointed. He said he would send forms of application to the Town Clerk. Those present formed themselves into a Committee, a hearty vote of thanks was tendered to Dr. Haast, and the meeting terminated.
