The Corn Exchange reports for the week ending Friday evening, the 24th inst. : The transactions in the grain and produce markets during the past week have been of an unusually quiet nature. Milling wheat (prime) is saleable at late quotations, with little offering. Second quality continues stagnant. Chick wheat (whole) engages attention at full rates. Oats keep moving into trade consumption, preference being given to bright feed lines. There has also been an enquiry for good Danish oats, for shipment. No sales of account have taken place in barley; very cheap lines are chiefly sought after for feed purposes. Peas and beans are quiet. Real prime blue peas find buyers at full rates. There has also been a desire to obtain prime beans at a slight concession off quoted prices. Ryegrass is scarce, and full rates are obtainable ; while in cocksfoot the supply has been fully equal to the demand, but sellers are firm, and in many instances prefer holding to submitting to any reductions in price. Potatoes have been sold during the week at prices quoted below, but buyers do not seem inclined to speculate very heavily. Last week’s quotations for dairy produce are still maintained : at the same time there are no buyers beyond those who have actual orders on hand.
