TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Temuka Town Board was held last night in the Board's office. Present—Messrs K. F. Gray (Chairman), Quinn, Brown, and Blyth. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read from Mr Maxwell, Oeneral Manager of Railways, to the effect that the application of the Board for two lamps to be placed at the crossing south of the railway station would receive consideration. From the Hon. Secretary to the Benevolent Society, asking for a donation to the funds of the Society.—The Secretary was instructed to reply that the law did not allow of money being given away in that way. MIBCEIiLAHEOUI. On the motion of Mr Blyth, seconded by Mr Brown, it was resolved—" That tenders be cal led for next Board day for kerbing and chanelling from the vVesleyan Church corner to Henry'p corner." After some conversation it was decided to distribute the work of the Board fairly between the working men of the town, it being held that it was unfair that it should all be given to one man. Tenders were opened as follows for Contract No. 9, shingling :—"Vf. Dunn, £8 10b (accepted); W. Lewis, £l2 10s 3d. The Overseer's report was read. He enumerat3d the several channels cleaned and streets repaired during the month. There was still a few days work to be done at cleaning out channels. The balance to credit was £236 10s 3d. As Inspector of Nuisances he had given notice to two persons, one for not keeping drains properly open and another for throwing water where there is a great deal of traffic, and for allowing a great deal of rubbish to accumulate. Both promised to abate the nuisance immediately. The Chairman said,they ought to apply to get their reserves gazutted.—lt was decided that the Chairman should take steps in the matter. The Overseer's recommendation to exchange 12-inch pipes for 4-inch pipee with the Road Board was approved of. Accounts to the amount of £l4 lis were passed for payment. As the lamp-lighter's contract is drawing to a close it was decided to call for tenders for the work of lighting the lamps for the ensuing twelve months. The Board then adjourned.
