GERALDINE LITERARY INSTITUTE.

A meeting of the Committee of the Institute was held on Tuesday evening. Present—The Rev. Geo. Barclay, Patron, (in the chair), Rev, Jas. Preston, Dr Fish, and Messrs T. Hughes, J. Cunningham, W. Willoughby, J. Huffey, J. Pizzey, G, W. Westropp, J. S, Waite, J. Mundell, and E. Hardcastle, Secretary. MINUTES. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. THE LIBRARIAN'S RESIGNATION. The meeting had been called for the purpose of receiving the resignation of the Librarian, Mrs Addis, who is leaving for the North Island. Upon the resignation being read, Mr Cunningham moved, Mr Mundell seconded, and it was carried “ That the resignation of Mrs Addis be accepted, and that the Committee wish to express their regret at losing the services of so good a librarian.” NEW LIBRARIAN. Tenders having been called for the office of libraiian, the following were opened and considered :—R, Wood, £l9 per annum ; Mrs H. Chiverson, £2O; Mrs F. Freeman, £23 j Mrs H. Bosswell, £23 ; G. Kruse, £24. Mr Willoughby proposed, Mr Huffey seconded, and it was carried—“ That the tender of Mrs Bosswell be accepted.” The Secretary stated that Mrs Addis wished to be relieved of her duties us soon as the new librarian could take possession. It was therefore left with the Secretary and Mr Mundell to make the necessary arrangements. KERBING AND ASPHALTING. A conversational discussion took place on the question of kerbing and asphalting the footpath in front of the Institute building. The cosr, it was found, was beyond the means of the Institute at present. On the motion of Mr Cunningham, seconded by Dr Fish, it was resolved to let the matter stand over till the next Government grant was received.
