TEMUKA BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.

The first meeting of the General Committee of the Temuka Benevolent, Society was held in the Town Board Office on Tuesday, 23rd June, 1885. Mr K. F. Gray occupied the chair. The following were present—Mr K. F. Gray, Chairman Town Board ; Mr G. Dyson, Town Clerk ; Constable Morton, Chief of Police ; Revs, Hamilton and Macintosh, and Messrs Quinn, Rayner, I. Smith and Metson. The Secretary (pro tm) read the resolutions of the meeting held on llth June setting forth the constitution and functions of the Society, and'handed in the names of representatives which bad been communicated to him. The Committee was then constituted as follows;—Chairman Town Board, Town Clerk, Chief of Police, Ministers of Religion, and Messrs Rayner, Quinn, I. Smith, J. W. Miles, Metaor, and McCann (representatives). On the motion of the Rev. T. A. Hamilton, seconded by Mr C. J. Rayner, Mr K. F. Gray, Chairman of Town Board, was unanimously elected permanent Chairman.

Proposed by Mr Rayner, seconded by Mr Metson, and carried unanimously—“ That the Rev. T. A. Hamilton be elected permanent Secretary and Treasurer.”

The rev. Secretary then gave a report of the result of a personal canvass, receipts and expenditure, and stated that the various local bodies had'been appealed to for donations to the Society. On the motion of Mr Quinn, seconded by Mr Metson,- a Sub-Committee was then formed to deal with urgent cases and report to General Committee, consisting of the Chairman } Secretary, and two members.

After discussing two cases brought forward, and other matters, it was decided that the meetings should be held in the Town Board office every first Thursday of every month. Hearty votes of thanks were passed to the Chairman and Secretary and the meeting then adjourned.
