SPORTING.
ASHBURTON RACES.
The Autumn Meeting under the auspices of the Ashburton Racing Club commenced yesterday, the attendance being fair. The course wasjrather heavy, in consequence of the previous night's rain. We take the following results from the Guardian : Handicap Hurdle Race, of 50 sovs; over 8 flights of hurdles, about 3ft 6in high ; 2 iriles. Mr T. Sheenan's Master Agnes ... 1 Mr J. Higgin's Secretary 2 Marquis, Moody, Royalty and Wrangler also started. District Welter Handicap, of 30 sovs; minimum weight, Bst; one mile j district horses only. Mr J. Smith's Primrose 1 Mr J. Smith's Frantic 2 Dagrid also started. Ashburton Autumn Handicap, of 100 sovs. ; second horse to receive 25 sovs. from the stake; one and a half miles. Mr A. Hathorn's Take Miss 1 Mr H. Bradley's Puck 2 Mr T. Quill's Grand Duke 3 Marmion, Borderman, Mermaid and Silver Queen also ran. Time—2min 43£ sees. Totalisator—dividend, £8 Is. The Novel Race Hur,dieap, of 80 sovs. was a walk over for The Madam.
