Two Salvation Army women were fined 6a each in Wanganui yesterday for creating a disturbance on Saturday night by promenading the street in disguises. James E. Tapo Ngnto, an influential chief from the Taumarauia, went with the Premier to Wanagnui. It is the first time he has been there for years. At Christchurch at 4 o’clock on Saturday morning a fire occurred in the old Postoffice Buildings, Market Square, and that portion in the occupation of Mr W. Poster (a restaurant-keeper) and the Benevolent Society was completely gutted. There were seven persons sleeping on the premises, and they escaped, but lost all their belongings, Foster lost his furniture, which was insured for £3OO, and the Benevolent Society lost their stores, aqd records,

The Opunalce correspondent of the Star writes that the settlers in the Parihaka district are becoming uneasy on account of the present proceedings of the natives. Prom a cottage erected by Mr Pllmmer, upon a deferred payment section, the natives removed the windows and doors, and have also taken down and removed to the Parihaka pah the building owned by a farmer named Mcßeynolda, and formerly used as a billiard-room and canteen at Parihaka camp. The reason given for this action is stated to be on account of credit to the natives being stopped.
