ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, April 22. The mails per P. and 0. R.M.S. Shannon, dated Melbourne, March 12th, were delivered to-day via Brindisi. The Redistribution of Seats Bill has been passed through a Committee of the House of Commons. The Porte supports Nubar Pasha in suppressing the Bosphore Egyptienne, The rebellion in North-west Canada still continues, and the Indians have succeeded in capturing Fort Pitt, Mr Gladstone has admitted that the British Government were instrumental in causing the suppression of the Bosphore Egyptienne. It had been done subject to a protest by France, The shipment of frozen mutton, consisting of 10,500 carcases ex ship Marlborough, from Oamaru (left January 3rd), has been examined and found in good condition. April 22. It is rumored that the French squadron is preparing to proceed to Alexandria. Jn connection with the capture of Fort Pitt by the Indians, it is feared that sixty of the garrison have been massacred, including the Hon. Charles Dickens.
The Merchant Shipping and Under writers' Association report the arrival from Port Chalmers of the ship West land (left Jan. 23rd) and the ship Taranaki (left Jan. 31st). April 23. The Bishop of Salford, who is about to visit the colonies, is at present at Rome for the purpose of arranging missions to the Maoris. News from the Cape state that 700 Boers threaten to rescue Mr Van Kirk, who has been placed under arrest by the British Resident in Bechuanaland. Paris, April 21. The reply of Nubar Pasha to the ultimatum of the French Government demanding reparation for the suppression of the journal Bosphore Egyptienne has been received, and proves to be of an evasive character. Madeira, April 21. The N.Z. Shipping Company's R.M.S. Rimutaka arrived here yesterday afternoon. Her Homeward cargo of frozen meat is in good condition. San Francisco, April 21.
The Paiific Mail Company's R.M.S. Australia arrived here yesterday, with the Sydney mails of 26th ult,
