At the Burnside yards on Wednesday for really prime beef, competition was keen, and a slight advance on last quotations was obtained; for all other descriptions biddings were slow, and with no improvements in rates. Best bullocks brought from £7 to £9 7s 6d (one prime pen of shorthorn bullocks fetched £ll 37s 6d) ; others, £4 to £6los ; best cows, up to £8 15s ; others, £3 to £7. Beef, 15s to 20s per IOOJbs. Fat calves. —17s 6d to 365. Fat Sheep.—Best crossbreds brought 13s fid to 15s 9d ; fair to good do, 12s lo 13s 3d ; others, 8s 9d to lls 9d ; merinos, 7s 6d to 10s, Mutton l£d to 2d per lb. 52 crossbred ewes of Mr James Guild brought lls; 130 crossbred wethers of Mr M. Quinn brought 12s 3d to 14s 3d. Fat Lambs.—7s to 13s. Pigs.—Bacon pigs, from 42s to 55s ; porkers, from 27s to 35a ; stores, from 13s 6d to 34s ; 13 breeding sows, from 56s to 80s ; 37 suckers, from 9s to 14s. Sheepskins. Dry crossbreds low to medium, Is 3d to 3s 3d; do full wool, 3s 6d to 4s 9d ; merino, low to medium, Is 2d to 3s 4d ; full wool, 3s 9d to ss; dry and inferior pelts, 3d to lOd; green crossbred, 2s to 2s 3d ; do merino, Is 9d to 2s ; lambskins Is to 3a Id. Hides.—Light, 3d ; medium, 3£d to 3|d ; heavy, free from offal and in sound condition, 4d to 4|d per lb; cut and slippy, 2d to 2£d. Tallow, —Inferior and mixed brings 18s to 20s ; medium, 21s to 23s ; good to prime, 24s to 25s ; rough fat, 14s to 16s per cwt. Wheat.—Prime milling is quoted at Bs 2d to 3s 3|d. For one special line of velvet 3s 4|d was received by the grower. Fair to good is worth 3s Id to 3s 2d ; red straw ind medium 2s 8J to 3s ; fowl feed (scarce), 2s to 2s 6d per bushel. Oats.—Prime milling Is 9d to la lOd ; short bright feed, Is 8d to Is 9d ; medium and long sorts, Is 6d to Is 7d per bushel. In some cases bags have been paid for extra, but with a reduction of Id per bushel off the oats.
Barley.—There is no difficulty in placing really first-class malting at from 3s 6d to 4s. Medium is worth 3s to 3s 4d, and not bo much sought after ; milling, 2s 6d to 3s ; feed, Is 9d to 2s 4d. Ryegrass seed. —Farmers’ dressed has sold at 3s Cd, and machine-dressed at 4s 6d per bushel. Cocksfoot, if clean and sound, is saleable at to 3d per lb. Potatoes are in very large supply and move off slowly at—for prime Derwonts, £2 7s 6d to £2 15s; kidneys, £2 to £2 7s 6d per ton.
AUSTRALIAN MARKETS,
Sydney, April 17. New Zealand wheat is selling here at 2s 3d, and New Zealand oats at 2s 2d ; maize, 3s 3d per 561bs; Sugar Company’s No. 1 pieces, £26. Adelaide, April 17. The wheat market is quieter with prices ruling at 3s 8d to 3s 9d. Flour—Town brands, £8 5s to £8 10s; country do, £ll 5a to £lllos.
ENGLISH MARKETS.
London, April 16. Consols have risen 15s, and are now quoted at 95£ per cent. The Bank rate remains at per cent., but the market rate has been reduced and is now 2f nor cent. April 17. New Zealand securities have generally advanced by to 2 per cent., and to-day’s quotations are—s per cent. 10-40 loan, 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 96|. Colonial breadstuff's—Adelaide wheat, ex s'ore, has declined by 2s to 38s per 4961b5, Adelaide flour remains at 275, Now Zealand wheat Isas declined by 2s, and is now 32s to 37a, according to quality per 4961b5, ex store, The wool market continues firm. The catalogue at to-day’s auction comprised 8000 bates, New Zealand mutton has suffered a decline of from Id to £d, and is now realising s£d In s|d per lb.
