ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, March 27. The proceedings which were recently instituted by Earl of Durham for a divorce from his wife on the grounds of her insanity have been brought to a close, with the result that Lord Durham has been non-suited. The London and Westminster Bank will transact the New South Wales’ banking business, joining with the Associated Banks in raising future loans for that colony. March 28. In the House of Commons last night the Convention recently concluded between the Great Powers and England for the settlement of the Egyptian financial questions on the basis of the proposals of the French Government, and as subsequently modified by the British Cabinet, was under discussion. Sir Henry Bruce moved a motion, of which he had given notice, censuring the action of the Government in the matter. A lengthy debate followed with the result that the amendment was rejected; and a resolution passed by a majority of 48 expressing the approval of the Egyptian Convention. The s.s. Aorangi from Wellington (left February 14th) arrived at Plymouth this morning. Her shipment of ffozen meat is in good condition. The Shaw-Sa\ill and Albion Company’s Arawa left Plymouth this morning for New Zealand. The French Senate have approved of the report submitted to them, which advocates an increase of duty on corn and flour. At the banquet given by Earl Rosebery, the Prince of Wales, Prince Albert Victor, the Agents-General, Mr J. C. Bray, ex-Premier of South Australia, and Mr J. B. Thurslow, Colonial Secretary of Fiji, were present. Obituary—-Mr Mitchell Henry, M.P* for Galway, and Major-General Sir Arthur Freeling. The War Department are following the steps taken by Victoria, and have adopted the hydro-pneumatic guncarriage, and also the solid case cartridge.
