WRECK OF A STEAMER.
The steamer Thomas Russell was comp'otely wrecked at OreU Point, B>y of PI nty, during a gale, but all her crew have been landed in safety. The ste inaer was almost a new vessel, having been built for the Wnimate Coat and S earn Co., by Messrs F <rro«t Bros., of London, in the litter end of 18S3. She was built of steel, and was of 252 tons gross, with engines of 60 horse pow> r nominal. . The 8.8. Minnie Casey, .64 tons, with fourteen passengers, of which two were ladies, was carried out towards the bar by the force of the gale, and the sea shipped had worked into the cabin and hold to such an extent that the fires were put out and an attempt was made to wmk the steamer under can* vug, but the sails were b own to ribbon* when bent. To make matter* more serious provisions ran snort. The pump* at l<mgih became unworkable and bucket* had to be used to reduce the water in the hold, and when the wind had somewhat abate I canvass was set and the steamer was enabled to arrive at HelenavilD, all being much exhausted from want of provisions and the heavy, work they had undergone pnmpmg the steamer.
