CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS.
At the Addington Yards on Wednesday large supplies of sheep and small entries of cattle sent forward for the day’s market., The fat sheep market was a rather uneven one throughout; taken all through values remain unaltered. Crossbred wethers sold at from lls to 14s 9d ; ewes and mixed sexes, 10s to 13s 91 ; merino wethers, from 8s to 10s 6d, an average price of a shade under 2d per lb being the market rate. Large entries of store sheep, principally crossbred ewes, were penned, the business done was very limited, vendors and buyers being unable to agree as to values, a fine of lambs sold at 5s 6d per head, a line of merino wethers at la lid end 2s 61 ; other entries passed unsold. Fat limbs were ia full supply, selling st trom 7» 6d to 8s 6d per head, Ti e entry of pigs was a small one, values remaining unaltered, Only a small entry of principally young store cattle yarded ; business very dull. Dairy cows sows sold at from £5 2s 6d to £7 15i. Only a moderate entry of fat cattle sent forward, Market dull, with no altera'ion in values. Steers sold from £5 )0s to £7, heifers £4 5s to £6 2s 6d, being from 17s to 18a 6J per 1001 b, according to quality.—Press,
CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE.
The Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday evening, the 13th inst :
The paarket for grain during the past week has not evinced any tendency towards a change for the better. Horne advices are still of such a depressing na'nre as tp preclude tbp possibility of buyers advancing prices. The stocks of wheat that continue to be poured into the *■- market from all quarters must Lonuon ... "to rule, and
naturally cause low pnw while India and America cun send such enoirnoua quantities there ran be but a small cbance for tbe New Zealand farmers to compete profitably if we consider the lower prices of labor in, and freight from, these countries. Samples of g;ain are not coming in very freely, owing no doubt to the recent rains having caused the suspension of threshing, although a very marked improvement in the weather is now being experienced, and we may anticipate greater briskness to result. Quotations as follow may now be said to be definitely fixed as the opening prices, numerous sales having been effected at these rates; —
Wheat.—Kew, 2a 61 to 2s 91 ; chick feed Is 9d to 2s, f.o.h. Onto—Milli-g, Is 111 ; bright feed, I s 9d to Is 101 ; other feed Is 7d to Is 81, f.o.b. B;, r !ey—Malting, 3s 6d to 4s ; feed, Is 91 to 2s, Christehuicb. Grass Seed.—Kye, fanner’s cleared, 2s 9J to 3s ', machine-dressed heavy, 3s 94 to 4», f.o.b. Cocksfoot, bright samples,
3d to 3Ad ; discolored and inferior, 2d to 2|d f.o.b. Dairy Produce—Butter, 6d to 7d. Cheese, 4d per lb, f.o.h.
DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS
At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday, 169 head fat catile yarded, a fair proportion fair to good, very few prime, and the balance inferior quality. The belter class were fairly competed for, but medium ood inferior were difficult of sale at. reduced rates. Best bullocks brought £7 td-lfiP ; fdr to good, £6 to £6 17s 6d; inferior, £3 30s to £6 17s 6d ; cows, £3 10s to £7 37s 6J. Beef, 17s to 20s per lOOlbs. Fat C ilvcs,—Prime, 25s to 445; others, 8s 61 to 20s each Fat sheep.—2444 penned. Nearly all were crossbreds, only a few merinos being In. Only pri ne wethers approached last week’s rates, while medium and inferior were decidedly lower, ewes, especially, by from Is to Is 6d per head. Best crossbred wethers brought 12s to 15s 6d ; others, 8* tolls 6 i ; merinos, up to 8s 6d. Mutton lid to l|i per lb. Mr M. Quinn sold 140 crossbreds at 14s, Fat Lambs 5s to 10s 9d, according to quality. Pigs.-Suckers b-ought 9s to 19s; stores, 20s to 34s ; potkers, 25s to 35s ; breeding sows, 36s to 82. s ; pure Berkshire boars, 60s to 655; bacon pigs, to £3 6*. Demand good. Hides. -In better demand, and prices a shade better, especially for well-fliyed heavy weights. Light bring 3d to 3| I ; heavy, 4d to 4|d. Tallow.—Very little business doing, and prices still low. Buyers are indisposed to, operate, and local wants being well supplied, quotations are merely nominal—viz , 22s to 26-i for best ; 20* to 22s for medium; inferior, 16s to 19s; rough fat, 12s to 16s.
DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKET.
Wheat.—Business almost at a standstill, pending arrival of parcels of the new crop, very few of which have yet been received. Such «s are forward are well grown and in excellent condition, Sales have been made of several lines of new pearl velvet at 3s to 3s Id for future delivery ; prime parcels of old milling, of which there is very little in stock, is worth up to 3s fid; inferior and fowl feed, Is 101 to 2s 61 per bushel. Oats.—For good sound feed, old crop, of which there n r & still large supplies in the market, there is little demand nt is 9d to Is lOd for best; inferior and discoloured up to Is Bd. Some prime parcels of new crop have been readily cleared at Is lOd to 2s Id. For a snrill lot of Danish Is 9J was the best price ottered.
Barley.—No transactions of importance as the season is yet hardly advanced enough, and buyers appear disposed to wait in the hope that quotations may rule in their favor. Some sales of plump wellcolored parcels of new crop have been effected at 3s C I delivered in town.
Potatoes.—Arrivals dnrieg the week have been small, and as old stocks of kidneys have been nearly all worked off there is abetter demand, especially for Derwents. Kidneys, 40s to 50s for best; inferior and damaged, 20s to 355. Ryegrass Seed. have been placed at 3s fid. Cocksfoot inquired for, but at a reduction on prices demanded.
